8 Hours Before (Part Two)
Excitement and dismay traveled through my body as I neared the front doors to the Blackmore Estate. Thoughts raced in my head, a hundred miles per hour they flew by. I felt sort of overwhelmed and before I knew it, my hand reached up to my neck circling the two pinpricks that lay there. Immediately a wave of calmness washed over me and I took a deep breath in. We’re ready- no, you’re ready, Viola, I thought to myself, This is going to end once and for all.
I ran my fingers through my hair and moved it to cover the mark on my neck once in view of the large double doors. I could smell them, a thousand little scents fluttering up my nose followed by voices I missed so dearly. A smile fell on my face, I hadn’t realized how much I missed my friends until I was standing just a few steps away from them.
Friends. The word echoed through my mind, thinking of all who have fallen because of my in the past few months. My smile faltered for a brief moment.
The quiet chattering outside broke my thoughts, luckily, and I let out a deep breath. As my hands rested on the door handles, my back straightened and I held my head high. There was no one more determined than I at this very moment as my Alpha blood pumped itself fiercely through my veins.
The Lucketts were the first to arrive. About 1,500 bodies stood before me carrying very few items in their hands. I overlooked them, glancing briefly at their faces that showed they were ready for war. Well, that was what they were meant for – they were the warriors of the Royal Packs and took absolute pride in it. They spent their entire lives preparing to protect their families and would risk their lives for the pack. Only the warriors of each Royal Pack would come to serve and protect in this bloody war-especially since it wasn’t on our homeland.
I looked around for Sanders, but found Meredith instead who was walking over to me with a kind smile. I returned the gesture, happy to have seen her - despite the circumstances. She asked me with her eyes how I was holding up and wrapped her arms around me to pull me into a hug.
“I’m fine,” I told her as we unwrapped our embrace.
“Oh sweetie,” she lay a hand on my cheek and smiled, “your parents would have been proud of you.”
I nodded slightly with a soft smile on my lips as I noticed a presence behind me. I turned to face Kristen’s smiling face. “Miss Diamond,” she curtsied, “Mrs. Luckett.”
“Kristen,” my smile spread.
“The queen apologizes for not greeting you when you first got here but she feels it may best for everyone to get settled and to get everything in place,” Kristen spoke to Meredith, “She’ll be meeting the heads of the Royals once everyone arrives at the meeting later.”
“Ah,” Meredith mused, “Thank you, dear.”
Out of the corner of my eye, a figure was approaching where the three of us stood. Sanders warm face looked solid and stern, his eyes swimming with anger and worry. I fought back a laugh at how serious his face looked; I was so used to my best friend being happy and having some sort of silly face on that it struck me as funny to see him to serious. When our eyes met though, he subtly smiled at me and I fought the urge to cling to his tall body, to be engulfed in the scent of his cologne that somehow reminded me of my childhood. When he reached us, he stared down Kristen which made her sort of startled. I nudged him in the ribs as another figure joined us.
