Who Do You Think You Are
I parked my car in the driveway of the pack house that was deep in the forest. It was around sunset as the sky colored itself with reds, yellows, and pinks. The forest seemed peaceful but something about it still gave me an edge. In front of me, I glanced at the wooden two story home that seemed empty. Quickly, I placed the two books I had retrieved from my home forest in the back seat under a long jacket I had there.
Once I was at the front door, I knocked and waited. I used my advanced hearing to listen inside but only found the noises of the television in the living room that was on. Curious, I reached forward and turned the door knob. I calmly rushed inside to see the pack house empty despite Matthew telling me to stop by here before heading home.
My heart slightly quickened when I slowly stepped forward into the kitchen. I glanced around just to make sure that no one was hiding and about to attack me. I was a bit on edge, my senses high and alert.
Suddenly, a grunt in the backyard made me cautiously, but quickly, move to the back door. I kept my eyes peeled for any sudden movement as I moved outside into the clear backyard. The thought of the pack being attacked crossed my mind for a split second as a growl rang through the forest.
With that, I took off running into the forest. I darted trees left and right, desperate to get to where I had heard the noise. My chest rose up and down as I panted. I kept my senses alert for anything as I approached the scene.
Two wolves growling caught me off guard as the lunged at each other. I ran forward into the clearing and Matthew turned around to look at me with an eyebrow cocked at me.
“What’s up with you?” he commented on my worried expression.
I walked forward to him and hit him upside the head to which he groaned.
“I thought something had happened to you all!” I muttered with a frown.
“Aw, you care!” Sam yelled as he ran over to me with a grin.
“Of course I care,” I crinkled my nose at his sweaty smell.
“Hey Viola,” Sam grinned mischievously, “Want a hug?”
Slowly I backed up as I overlooked Sam. He was shirtless and his entire body was drenched in sweat, even his hair was completely wet from him. I shook my head desperately as he kept inching forward and finally took off away from him and to Richard.
“Hey Rich!” I greeted with a smile.
“Hey,” he said emotionless.
I furrowed my brows and then looked at what he was staring intently at. In the middle of the clearing was Nick, Brett, and Thomas in wolf form. The three of them were training as the other three overlooked them and helped them control their technique. Nick wasn’t so swift with his attacks which is why Richard was watching him closely. Every so often Richard would yell out to Nick, trying to help his little brother out.
Ignored, I walked back to Matthew who held a smile on his face.
“I told you we train,” he winked.
“I never said I didn’t believe you,” I let out a laugh.
“We’re a strong pack,” Matthew smiled as he gazed at his pack members training, “We’re brothers.”
I nodded as I looked at Nick gaining more skills as he dodged Brett and attacked Thomas. The Reilly pack seemed to be doing well, but I didn’t know if that was good enough. I was hesitant to tell this to Matthew but felt the need to warn them if anything. After all, these people had found their way into my heart and there was no way I was going to lose any more people I cared about.
