Don't Save Me
Darkness, excruciating darkness. My own voice echoes in my mind. I can hear my own shallow breathing. Darkness. My body is burning. My throat feels raw and itchy. My heart is going crazy. Darkness. Where am I? I’m alone. Alone.
I’m alone.
I don’t know how long it was like that, it could’ve been hours, days, or weeks, but for me it felt like an eternity. I was lost in the darkness of my own mind, hearing and seeing nothing. My body was firing with heat and I could feel myself weaken. My own heart beat thumped in my ears. My throat burned. And all I could do was wait for it to stop.
I heard birds fluttering away in the distance. I couldn’t open my eyes but I felt the heat of a fire somewhere near, along with the cool breeze of the afternoon. I lay on the floor, struggling to regain any energy left. I could feel the cold, hard chains keeping me restrained from leaving.
I was still in wolf form as I lay on the dirt floor. My ears twitched a bit, listening for all I could. I need to know where I was and who was here without drawing attention. I could pick up slight noises of animals scurrying away and birds chirping far, far away. The fresh pine tree smell told me that I couldn’t be far from home and the strong stench of vampire told me they were only a few feet away from me.
Something about these vampires was different. Their scent was different than Claude’s scent, each of them had the same exact smell. Claude’s was different, it was a distinct smell that I could trace back to him and only him. They also reeked of sweat and needed a shower badly.
I attempted to open my eyes again but couldn’t. Open your eyes Viola! I yelled at myself.
“I think she’s awake,” a deep voice spoke loudly.
“She hasn’t moved since we brought her here,” another voice spoke, “I doubt she’s awake.”
“Why can’t we just kill her now?” a third voice grumbled while kicking the dirt on the ground.
“Now, that’s no fun boys!” the second voice laughed, “We need her alive and kicking to have some fun.”
“How much longer untill she wakes up?” the third voice spoke, “I want to kill her already!”
Wow, I thought to myself, you aren’t killing me anytime soon, bloodsuckers.
“Shut up!” A fourth voice roared causing the others to be silent.
Footsteps neared to where I was and abruptly stopped by my head. His smell was unbearable, making me want to gag. With a swift movement, he kicked me in the gut making me inwardly groan. The force was enough to make my ribs break, but luckily didn’t. The chains crashed against each other as he did so, sending echoes through the seemingly empty forest.
“See?” the fourth voice spoke, “The wolfsbane still has her under control. She should be awake soon, though. We only struck her a couple of hours ago.”
It’s still Monday, I thought now a bit relieved, It’s only been a couple of hours.
Open your eyes, Viola! Get up and fight! I added with a yell.
My eyes slowly fluttered open, my blurred vision becoming clear. It was only just about to be sunset, the sun still lighting up the trees in the distance. I was in a forest, but it didn’t resemble the one in my town. As far as I knew, there were no human beings anywhere near for miles. It looked like we were in a small clearing, only grass on the ground but no trees - only surrounding the clearing. A fire burned in the near distance, four beings surrounding it.
