The next afternoon the Great Hall was full of students revising for O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s.
Books were stacked everywhere. Half the school looked like they hadn't slept in days.
At the Slytherin House table, Callidora Nott sat with parchment spread around her like a defensive barrier. She was writing quickly, occasionally pausing to mutter spell theory to herself.
Across the hall at the Gryffindor House table, Fred Weasley was pretending to read a book.
He hadn't turned the page in ten minutes.
Next to him, George followed Fred's gaze across the room.
Then back to Fred.
Then back to Calli.
Then back to Fred.
"You're staring again."
Fred snapped his book shut.
"I am not."
George raised an eyebrow.
"You've been staring for twelve minutes."
Fred muttered something unintelligible.
George leaned closer.
"You kidnapped her."
"It wasn't kidnapping."
"You made her a picnic."
Fred looked defensive.
"It was a nice picnic."
George smirked.
"You kissed her."
"It was a cheek kiss."
"She tried to kiss you first."
"It was an accident."
George watched him a moment.
Fred slumped in his seat.
"I don't know what to do."
George glanced across the hall again.
Calli was now reading while mixing her tea.
With a quill.
George shook his head slightly.
"Well someone has to help the poor girl survive O.W.L.s."
Fred blinked.
"What?"
George stood up.
Fred grabbed his sleeve.
"Where are you going?"
"To perform a public service."
George strolled across the Great Hall like he owned the place.
Lucy Winterbourne noticed him first.
"Oh look," she announced loudly, "a Weasley."
Calli looked up.
George smiled politely.
"Miss Nott."
Calli raised an eyebrow.
"George."
Lucy leaned forward eagerly.
"Is Fred having another emotional breakdown?"
George grinned.
"Constantly."
Calli looked faintly amused.
"Well that's reassuring."
George glanced at the parchment spread across the table.
