Branches snapped underfoot as Callidora Nott ran toward the woods.
The campsite behind her burned with scattered fires, the glow flickering through the trees while terrified witches and wizards rushed past in every direction.
More than once someone tripped in the panic.
Calli stopped each time she saw it happen.
She hauled one woman up by the arm before the crowd could trample her.
Another wizard had fallen to his knees while dragging a suitcase; Calli grabbed the handle and shoved it back into his hands.
"Go!" She urged, pushing him toward the trees before running again.
Her heart hammered in her chest.
Theo.
She had to find Theo.
The forest grew darker as she pushed deeper into it, the noise of the campsite muffled by the trees.
Then she heard a voice.
"If you think they can't spot a Mudblood..."
Calli froze.
She knew that voice.
Draco Malfoy.
Her blood turned cold.
She pushed through the trees and stumbled into a small clearing.
Standing there were Ron Weasley, Harry Potter, and Hermione Granger.
Across from them, leaning casually against a tree as if tonight were perfectly ordinary, stood Draco and Theo Nott.
Both boys looked completely relaxed.
Worse.
They looked entertained.
Calli felt a sharp twist of disbelief.
Another massive bang erupted somewhere deeper in the forest.
The sound echoed through the trees, sending more people screaming past the clearing.
Harry stepped forward angrily.
"Your parents out there wearing masks, are they?" He demanded.
Draco smirked.
"Well, if they were, you wouldn't be able to prove it, would you?"
The casual answer made Calli's stomach drop.
Ron swore under his breath.
Hermione grabbed Harry's arm, and the three of them hurried deeper into the forest.
Calli barely noticed.
She strode forward and grabbed Draco and Theo by their arms.
