He's Back
It got boring fast.
At first there had been excitement, tension, people craning their necks as if they might somehow see through the towering hedges.
But minutes stretched.
Then more minutes.
And more.
Soon the stands dissolved into chatter; students talking, guessing, complaining. Some had even started placing bets.
Calli sat beside Fred, her focus drifting despite herself, her fingers idly tracing patterns against the wood of the bench.
"How long has it been?" Lucy muttered.
"Too long." George replied resting his head against the rails.
A scream cut through the chatter.
The entire stadium went dead silent.
Calli's hand tightened instinctively gripping Fred's knee.
"It's Fleur!" She whispered, breath catching.
They waited.
Every single person in the stands holding still.
Waiting for the signal, the red sparks.
Nothing.
No sparks.
No movement.
Just silence.
"That's not right." Stella said quietly.
Professor McGonagall moved.
Without hesitation, she stepped forward and disappeared into the maze.
The crowd murmured anxiously.
Seconds felt like minutes.
Minutes felt unbearable.
Then finally McGonagall emerged with Fleur floating in front of her, limp and stunned.
A wave of murmurs spread through the stands.
"She's out!"
"What happened?"
Calli's stomach twisted.
One down.
The tension only tightened after that.
Time dragged again.
Heavier now.
More suffocating.
Red sparks shot up into the air from somewhere deep within the maze.
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd.
