Snape Tells a Secret
Morning sunlight poured through the tall windows of Hogwarts Castle.
It was already warm.
Most of the school had finished exams and had begun celebrating the arrival of summer. Laughter drifted across the grounds. Students sprawled by the lake. The air felt lighter.
Inside the castle, however, two groups of students looked like they might collapse at any moment.
The fifth years.
And the seventh years.
The Ordinary Wizarding Levels and Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests were still underway.
Which meant half of them was studying.
And the other half was having nervous breakdowns.
In the Slytherin common room, parchment and textbooks were scattered across nearly every table before breakfast.
A fifth year had their head down on a pile of notes.
Two seventh years were arguing quietly over a rune translation.
Callidora Nott sat in an armchair near the window, a book open in her lap that she wasn't really reading.
Across from her, Lucy was attempting to quiz Stella on Ancient Runes.
"If you fail this." Lucy said dramatically. "I'm blaming exhaustion."
Stella didn't look up.
"I am not failing."
Lucy narrowed her eyes.
"You said that before the last translation."
Before Stella could reply, the common room door burst open.
It slammed against the stone wall.
Every head turned.
Severus Snape stormed inside like a thundercloud.
His robes were dusty.
His hair looked worse than usual.
And he looked furious.
Students went silent almost instantly.
Snape stopped in the center of the room.
"You should all know." He said coldly. "That the Defense professor currently teaching in this castle is a dangerous creature."
A ripple of confusion spread across the room.
Calli looked up slowly from her book.
Snape's lip curled slightly.
"Professor Remus Lupin is a Werewolf."
The silence shattered.
Whispers erupted everywhere.
"What-?"
"That can't be!"
"Seriously?"
Lucy sat up straighter.
"Well that's dramatic."
Calli didn't say anything.
But her jaw tightened slightly.
Snape continued speaking, voice sharp with contempt.
"He has been teaching students all year while concealing what he truly is."
More whispers spread through the room.
"I suggest you write to your parents about how unacceptable this is."
