Canary Creams

Calli knew her friends meant well.

But being late to class, especially a N.E.W.T. class, was not a risk she was willing to take. Not with professors like Severus Snape or Filius Flitwick watching like hawks.

So during lunch she slipped away quietly and hurried to the Charms classroom for their double period.

Today they were learning Reductor Curse; Reducto.

Explosive magic.

Exactly the sort of spell that made half the classroom nervous and the other half far too excited.

By the time the lesson ended, the corridor outside filled with the usual chaos of students packing bags and comparing homework.

Calli barely made it three steps before someone blocked her path.

"Callidora Nott."

She looked up.

Fred Weasley stood in front of her with his hands planted firmly on his hips.

He looked like a very tall, very disapproving mother.

"Have you been avoiding us?"

Calli blinked innocently.

"I just had research I needed to do for Ancient Runes before Charms."

Fred narrowed his eyes.

Then, without another word, he turned and began walking.

Calli followed automatically before realizing where he was leading her.

The disused bathroom.

Otherwise known as Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes Headquarters.

"Fred." She said quietly as they stopped outside the door.

"I don't want a big commotion."

"Nothing big." He promised quickly.

"Just a little celebration."

He leaned closer, lowering his voice.

"Then we can sneak off to the Forbidden Forest."

His mischievous grin made the meaning perfectly clear.

Some animagus fun.

Calli rolled her eyes but couldn't stop the small smile tugging at her lips.

Fred pushed the door open.

The bathroom had been completely transformed.

Balloons floated near the ceiling.

Candy was scattered across the sinks.

Butterbeer bottles clinked together on one of the counters.

Her friends were already there; Lucy, Stella, George, and also Ron, Harry and Ginny had gathered around several bubbling cauldrons.

Calli blinked in surprise.

"Well..." She said slowly. "This is slightly more than 'nothing big.'"

Fred shrugged.

"We knew you wouldn't be able to sit still."

He gestured toward the cauldrons.

"So you can also help us perfect the Canary Creams."

He leaned closer and muttered under his breath.

"The results are... not ideal at the moment."
