Wood Tries to Drown Himself

The morning of the first Quidditch match arrived under a sky that looked like it had already decided the day would be miserable.

Rain hammered the enchanted ceiling of the Great Hall at Hogwarts Castle, thunder rumbling somewhere far above the mountains.

At the Slytherin table, Callidora Nott sat with her arms folded, glaring across the hall.

"This is ridiculous." She muttered.

Lucy leaned over her porridge.

"You mean the storm or the Malfoy situation?"

"Both."

Draco Malfoy had apparently decided that he was still injured and that the Slytherin team should swap match slots with Hufflepuff.

Which meant Slytherin would not be playing Gryffindor today after all.

Even though they had a perfectly capable backup seeker.

Coward, Calli thought bitterly.

Few of the team had agreed.

She stabbed her toast.

Stella, calm as always, sipped her tea.

Calli glanced toward the red table.

The Weasley twins were loudly arguing over something while Oliver Wood looked like a man preparing for war.

Calli stood.

Lucy smirked.

"Ah. Emotional support visit."

"Oh hush."

She walked over to the Gryffindor table.

Fred looked up first.

"Well, if it isn't our favorite snake."

George grinned.

"Here to spy?"

Calli rolled her eyes.

"Just try not to die out there."

Fred grinned wider.

"Aw, she cares."

"I care about not having to attend two funerals in one week."

George clutched his heart dramatically.

"Brutal."

Calli shook her head and glanced along the table.

Her eyes landed on Harry.

He looked pale already, staring out at the rain hammering the windows.

She walked a few steps down the table.

"Potter."

Harry looked up.

"Yeah?"

"Good luck out there."
