Petrifications
Snow fell gently outside the tall windows of the Hospital Wing when Callidora Nott groggily opened her eyes.
The room was dim, lit only by a few lanterns. For a moment she just stared at the ceiling, trying to piece together where she was.
Then her head throbbed.
She winced and slowly pushed herself upright.
The last thing she remembered was the Quidditch match against Gryffindor.
Her eyes scanned the room.
Hospital beds.
Potion bottles.
Flowers and several boxes of sweets piled on the table beside her bed.
Calli frowned.
She couldn't have been out that long.
"Hello?" She croaked, her throat feeling like sandpaper.
The door of the office burst open.
"Oh my! You're awake!"
Poppy Pomfrey hurried over, already holding a glass of water.
"Here dear, drink."
Calli gratefully drank the entire glass.
"Thank you, Madam Pomfrey." She said hoarsely. "What happened?"
"Well dear." Pomfrey said briskly, checking her eyes and pulse. "You took a nasty hit to the head during the Quidditch match and fell off your broom. You've been asleep ever since."
Calli stared at her.
"Has it been long?" She asked, already suspecting the answer.
Madam Pomfrey gave a small sigh.
"Today is Christmas."
Calli blinked.
"You may go down to the Great Hall, but if you feel even slightly ill you come straight back to me. Understood?"
"Yes ma'am."
Calli slowly climbed out of bed, wobbling slightly as feeling returned to her legs.
Only then did she realize she was wearing dark green pajamas.
She considered changing.
Then her stomach growled loudly.
Food won.
What she didn't notice was two students laying perfectly still on the hospital beds... Petrified.
The Great Hall was brighter and louder than she expected.
Students filled the long tables, Christmas decorations glittering above them.
Several people turned to stare as she walked in wearing her nightclothes.
Calli ignored them.
"Calli!"
She barely had time to turn before someone collided with her.
"Never scare us like that, ever!" Said Fred Weasley, pulling her into a tight hug.
"Stella! She's up!" Shouted Lucy, eyes shining with tears.
Fred released her just in time for Stella and Lucy to nearly tackle her.
"Never leave me alone with Lucy that long ever again." Stella said, wiping her cheeks.
Lucy elbowed her.
"You loved it."
Calli looked between them in confusion.
