The Match That Changed Everything
A roar of cheers thundered across the grounds of the Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch.
Above the pitch, players circled down through the cool autumn air as the match ended. The banners of Slytherin snapped sharply in the wind while the green-and-silver stands erupted into celebration.
From the commentator's tower, Lee Jordan's voice rang across the stadium.
"And Terence Higgs, Slytherin Seeker, has caught the Golden Snitch! Slytherin wins one hundred and ninety to twenty!"
The Slytherin team swooped down to the pitch amid deafening cheers.
Callidora Nott barely had time to steady her broom before Terence flew straight into her.
"You were amazing!" He exclaimed, pulling her into a quick celebratory hug.
Calli laughed breathlessly, cheeks flushed from the cold wind and adrenaline. Her dark hair had come loose during the match and whipped wildly around her shoulders.
Her first Quidditch match.
And Slytherin had won.
"Nice game, Calli."
She turned at the familiar voice.
Standing nearby was Charlie Weasley, his grin wide despite Gryffindor's loss.
"Thanks, Charlie." Calli said as she stepped back from Terence.
Charlie shook his head admiringly.
"You nearly took one of our Chasers off his broom with that last bludger."
As if summoned by the conversation, another Weasley landed beside them.
"Can't believe you lot flattened us like that." Said Fred, hopping off his broom with a laugh. "Pretty sure our Keeper is actually crying somewhere."
"Serves him right." Muttered Angelina, landing beside them and rolling her eyes.
"At least some players on the Slytherin team didn't resort to cheating."
Her gaze flicked across the pitch toward Marcus Flint, who was loudly arguing with the referee.
Calli felt irritation spark in her chest.
Angelina wasn't wrong.
Earlier in the match Marcus had deliberately aimed a brutal Bludger toward Oliver's head. Calli had redirected it at the last moment.
She had no intention of winning her first match through dirty play.
Even if half her team didn't seem to care.
Fred studied her with a crooked smile.
"You know..." He said thoughtfully, "for a Slytherin, you're suspiciously honorable."
Calli smirked.
"For a Gryffindor, you're suspiciously smart."
George burst out laughing somewhere behind them.
The fifth match of the year arrived beneath a cold grey sky.
Today's game was Hufflepuff versus Slytherin.
Calli shot across the pitch as another bludger screamed toward Terence.
She swung her bat.
CRACK.
The bludger rocketed away.
From the tower, Lee Jordan shouted again.
"And Calli Nott saves Terence Higgs from being hit by a bludger once again! Honestly she's also not a slimy cheater like-"
