A Kiss
Arms locked together, they ran.
The rain had come out of nowhere; one moment soft mist, the next a full downpour that soaked them through in seconds. The blanket and basket were hastily gathered between them, neither particularly successful at carrying either.
Calli laughed under her breath, breathless.
"Merlin! Run!"
Fred was laughing too, trying to keep hold of the blanket as it dragged and twisted around his legs.
They slipped inside the castle, dripping, shoes squeaking faintly against the stone floors.
"Shh-!" Calli whispered, though she was still giggling.
"You're the one laughing." Fred shot back just as quietly.
"Am not!"
"You are-"
And then Fred's foot caught in the blanket.
He went down.
Hard.
Calli slapped a hand over her mouth to stop the sound that nearly escaped her.
Fred lay there for a second, tangled hopelessly in wet fabric.
"Help." He muttered.
Calli shook her head, biting back laughter.
"Honestly, Fred, how hard is it to walk with a blanket?"
She crouched down to help him, not realizing, of course, that he could have gotten up at any time.
The second she leaned in, Fred grabbed her wrist and tugged.
She squealed, barely catching herself as her hands landed on his shoulders.
"Honestly, Calli." He shot back, grinning up at her. "How hard is it to walk without falling down?"
Her hair fell forward, fanning around his face.
For a second, neither of them moved.
Fred reached up, gently tucking one side behind her ear.
The moment softened.
"Calli?"
They froze.
Both of them scrambled up immediately, stepping apart.
Standing in the corridor was Cedric Diggory.
He looked between them.
Then at the blanket.
Then back at them.
There was a pause.
A slightly odd one.
Fred's expression shifted instantly.
"Diggory." He muttered under his breath.
"Hi, Cedric." Calli said quickly, offering a friendly smile. "Patrol night?"
"Yeah." Cedric replied, still glancing between them. "Everything alright here?"
"We're good, Diggory." Fred said, already waving him off. "Off you go."
Calli elbowed him lightly.
"Fred."
Cedric ignored the tension, turning back to Calli.
"So the Triwizard Tournament."
Calli nodded.
"Entering?"
