Fanged Geraniums

"Excuse me, can you show me where the Divination classroom is?"

Calli had just stood up from the Slytherin table with Lucy and Stella when a nervous Ravenclaw third year hurried over. The boy looked completely lost, clutching his timetable like it might escape.

Calli sighed inwardly.

Prefect duties.

"Yeah, of course," she said, forcing a polite smile. "I'll see you two at the greenhouse."

Lucy saluted her dramatically.

"Try not to adopt any more children on the way."

Stella smirked. "Or get lost in the towers."

"Ha. Ha." Calli muttered.

Soon she found herself leading a small procession of confused third years through the castle corridors and up several flights of stairs.

"Why is it so high?" One girl wheezed.

"Do they expect us to fly up here?" Another complained.

"It's because it's Divination." Calli said dryly as they climbed yet another staircase. "Apparently prophecies require altitude."

They finally reached the trapdoor entrance.

Calli pointed toward the circular opening in the ceiling.

"It's right through there, Professor Trelawney's classroom."

The third years thanked her before beginning the awkward climb.

Just as Calli turned around to head back,

BONG.

The bell echoed through the castle.

Calli froze.

"Oh, brilliant."

She bolted.

Down the stairs. Through the corridors. Out the castle doors.

By the time she reached Pomona Sprout's classroom in Greenhouse Three, she was slightly out of breath.

"...and as we'll need to revise several subjects for your O.W.L.s-"

Professor Sprout paused mid-sentence as Calli slipped inside.

"Miss Nott." She said calmly, hands on her hips. "Class started ten minutes ago."

Calli straightened.

"I'm sorry, Professor. I was showing some third years the way to Divination."

Sprout's expression softened slightly.

"Ah. Prefect duties." She nodded approvingly. "Very well then. Congratulations, Miss Nott. Please take a station."

Calli murmured a thanks and hurried between the tables of plants toward Lucy and Stella.

"As I was saying," Professor Sprout continued, "your O.W.L.s will determine which of you continue Herbology next year..."

Calli grabbed a pair of gloves and her notebook.

The moment she sat down, Lucy leaned toward her.

"He's checking you out."

Calli didn't even look up from her parchment.

"Who?"

"Diggory."

Calli blinked.

Only then did she realize the Hufflepuffs were sharing the class.
