Puking Pastilles

The disused bathroom at Hogwarts smelled strongly of peppermint, smoke, and something that could only be described as medical regret.

A cauldron bubbled on one of the desks.

Bright orange sweets were scattered across parchment covered in messy notes.

"Version fourteen." Announced George Weasley, squinting at the parchment.

Across the desk, Fred Weasley held up a round orange sweet proudly.

"Our finest attempt yet."

George looked skeptical.

"The last one made Lee hiccup blood."

Fred waved a hand.

"Minor side effect."

The classroom door creaked open.

"Should I even ask what you're doing?"

Fred nearly dropped the sweet.

Standing in the doorway were the three Slytherins.

Callidora Nott stepped inside, arms folded.

Behind her, Lucy immediately spotted the pile of sweets.

"Oh good." Lucy said. "Illegal candy."

Stella closed the door behind them.

Calli walked over to the desk and looked down at the notes.

"Puking Pastilles?"

Fred tried to sound casual.

"They're still in development."

George watched him carefully.

Fred was already acting weird.

Brilliant.

Calli picked up one of the sweets and examined it.

"You're trying to create a two stage charm reaction." She said slowly.

Both twins looked up.

Fred blinked.

"Yes?"

Calli pointed at one of the ingredient lists.

"This won't work."

George leaned closer.

"Why not?"

"You're mixing powdered bicorn horn with peppermint oil." She said. "Those cancel each other out."

Fred stared.

George slowly turned to him.

"She's right."

Fred groaned.

"That explains version eleven."

Lucy grabbed a sweet.

"Version eleven was the one that foamed purple, right?"

"Yes-"

Too late.

Lucy swallowed it.

Three seconds passed.

Lucy turned green.

"Oh."

She lunged for a bucket.

Moments later the room echoed with violent retching.

Stella sighed.

"Predictable."

Calli crouched beside the cauldron, examining the mixture.
