Fourth Times A Charm?

"I think she lost something." Lucy stated the obvious, her tone amused as she watched Calli turning her side of the dormitory completely upside down.

Clothes were half-folded, books stacked in unstable towers, parchment sliding everywhere as Calli searched with growing urgency.

Stella glanced up from her book.

"Calli." She said calmly, marking her page with one finger. "If you tell us what you're looking for, we might actually be of help."

Calli didn't hear them.

Or if she did, she ignored them.

She was mumbling to herself, tapping her wand against her temple while pacing.

"No, no, no- where did I-"

Suddenly she dropped to her knees and dove halfway under her bed like a woman possessed.

Lucy leaned back against her pillow, watching with great interest.

"Ten sickles says she forgot something catastrophic."

Stella didn't even look up.

"Five says it's academic."

Calli scrambled out from under the bed and immediately shot upward too fast.

Thunk.

Her head smacked directly into the corner of her nightstand.

"Ow! Bloody hell."

Lucy burst out laughing.

"You alright there, fearless leader?"

Calli rubbed her head, eyes wide as realization struck.

She froze.

Then slowly turned toward them.

"Did you guys know," she said slowly, "that I completely forgot to do the ritual last full moon?"

Lucy blinked.

Stella finally closed her book.

Calli began pacing again.

"I never forget things like that. Ever!"

Calli threw her hands in the air.

"Now guess when the next full moon is."

Lucy and Stella exchanged a look.

"Tonight?" Lucy guessed.

"Tonight!" Calli confirmed dramatically.

"I have to get ready for it. After so many failed attempts, this is it."

She started rapidly reorganizing the chaos she had created, shoving books back into stacks and stuffing parchment into folders.

On the bed sat a small velvet pouch.

Calli placed it carefully in the center of her mattress like it was the most important thing in the room.

"This is going to work." She said, almost to herself. "I can feel it."

Lucy watched her curiously.

"You're awfully confident."

Calli shrugged while tying her hair back.

"I also spoke to Cedric." She added casually, like she was commenting on the weather.

Lucy blinked again.

"That feels like a separate conversation we should be having."

"It was amicable." Calli said quickly. "I think."
