3 - School & Crushes

•Dahlias POV•

I wake up the next morning at 6:30am to the sound of 'People like us' by Kelly Clarkson playing out of my alarm clock. Stumbling out of bed, I know it will only take a half an hour to get ready for school. After changing into my stupid, boring school uniform, which consists of a blouse and a plaid skirt, I head to the bathroom.
I pull my long red hair up into a bun, and straighten my bangs. I then proceed with my usual makeup routine. When I've finished I look at myself in the mirror. Well, I don't have beautiful ice blue eyes like Maya, but I guess the chocolaty brown colour goes well with my hair.

I check the time on my phone, it's now 6:58. I run down the stairs and throw a bagel into the toaster. While I wait for it to be finished, I dash back up the stairs for my little black backpack and shove my books, wallet and phone into it, along with a pack of gum. Yes, I know you're not supposed to have gum in school, I'm just a rebel I suppose. A rebel who is scared to skip classes and tries her hardest to be on the honour roll... Okay, so rebel isn't the best word. Maybe, gum fanatic?

Anyway, after taking my backpack and setting it by the door, I rush back to the toaster, pull out my bagel and butter it.

"You're in an awful hurry," Maya comments.

"School. Can't be late. You better hurry up!" I take a bite. "Yum."

"Meeting Cal? Anyways, why are so you obsessed with school?"

"Not this morning, lunch though. And I don't actually like school, but better grades give me a better chance to do what I want," I pour myself a glass of water.

"And that is?"

"I um, I don't know yet. Well gotta go! Come on!" I finish my bagel and throw my backpack over my shoulder.

"Fine!"

The first thing I see when I walk in the doors at school is Victoria's perfect smile, and the first thing I hear is her perfect laugh. Ew.

I guess she is what you would call the Queen bee of the school. Mean, manipulative, beautiful, and clever. The guys adore her, the girls are scared of her. I spend half of my time here actually avoiding her, hoping she won't seeing me, but today I guess I have no choice.

"Oh em gee! Dahlia, right? I haven't seem you lately? Where have you been?" She asks the question not in a concerned way, but more like she's interrogating me.

"I don't know what you mean, I've been here," I smile sweetly.

"Ah. Well I'm so busy with everything, I must've missed you!"

Or maybe I'm extremely good at avoidance?

"I guess so."

"Anyway, can you believe Calum Hood is like in a band that's going to play in London? Do you know who he is? He goes here."

"Yeah actually he's one of my best fr-" I try to say, but she cuts me off.

"Yeah, well, I think that's like so hot!"

"Um.."

"I'm like totally going to be his girlfriend now. I mean, I have to!"

Maya coughs and flips her long brown hair. I can see she's trying not to laugh.

"Oh? Why's that?" I ask innocently.

"Well like, I'm the best and the prettiest and everyone loves me, right?"

"Okay, sure..."

"And he's going to be like famous, so it just has to be like that. It's my duty really!" She smiles confidently and curls her blond hair around her finger.
