The flood doesn't show signs of stopping anytime soon so we have to stay the night in the flood shelter which is basically a huge concrete building. Luckily the shelter is large and only Mr. Edge's first period class is in this one. We all split up into our friend groups and I go sit by Ivy, Sunny, Sebastian, and unfortunately Coleslaw.

"Oh my gosh! What about Luna?" Sunny asks.

"She will be fine Sunny. I'm sure she has found shelter," Sebastian tells her.

"If she hasn't she's dead," Cole says.

"Shut up Coleslaw!" The four of us say in unison.

"Whatever. Apparently no one can take a joke."

"It's just not a good time," Ivy replies placing her hand on Cole's shoulder.

I grab my water bottle from my bag and begin swirling the water around inside with my gift.

"I'm bored."

"Your face is bored," Ivy answers.

"What would happen if people found out about our gifts?" I ask still swirling the water.

Sunny answers, "Depends on the person."

"What if it was our parents?" Sebastian ask.

"I don't remember my parents much. The school found me as a young child and I have been raised by the headmaster and his family my whole life," Cole says. I putt my water bottle away so I can listen.

"I'm so sorry," Sunny whispers. Her eyes begin tearing up with the same golden tinted tears I saw before.

"It's not like I want to meet them anyway. I developed my gift very early and they abandoned me."

Sunny begins softly crying.

"I had no idea," Ivy mumbles.

"I'm so sorry," Sunny says through tears.

"What did you do?" Cole asks her.

"I have lived in fear of you since the incident. It must have brought back painful memories from your life with your parents. I'm so sorry."

"Not everything is your fault Sunny," Cole reassures her.

We all try to sleep after our conversation but thoughts are swirling In my mind like a tornado and I can't sleep. I think about the paper and how only I could read it. I think about Luna. I think about Cole. I think about everything that happened today until I eventually drift off to sleep.
