YOUR POV
After a few minutes, I decided to head out. As I walked upstairs, I saw a woman with black hair and amber eyes. When she saw me, her eyes widened with surprise. After a few seconds, her eyes softened.
"Oh! "You must be the new girl Garroth was talking about! My name is Aphmau. I'm the Lord of Phoenix Drop."
"Oh! I'm so sorry. My name is (E/C). Garroth told you everything?"
"Mostly everything. He didn't really say how you guys met, but he did say something about breaking your arm." She looked down at my wrapped hand.
"Uhh, yeah, but I'm okay. Excuse me." I slipped past her and out the front doors. Aphmau was nice. Most Lord's where lazy butts who just ordered people around. I'm glad Aphmau wasn't like that.
I turned down the path that led to the plaza. There were a few people there. Than a glimpse of a helm caught my attention. "Garroth?" I went around the bend and saw Garroth with a little wolf pup. I did everything in my power to keep myself from saying "AWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!" Garroth must have heard me come around the corner . He stood up and looked at me. His helm covered his face, but I still knew it was him.
"Oh! Hey (E/C)!"
"Hey Garroth! So, I was wondering if we could talk."
"Sure, I have time right now." He waited for me to say something.
"... in private." I said.
"Oh, umm..." I could tell he was blushing under his helm. I smiled at him.
"Please Garroth?" I gave him my best puppy eyes. He laughed.
"Sure, just let me give Yip back to his parents." Garroth walked over to a man maybe a little older than me. I followed.
"(E/C), this is Logan. He is sort of like our village's merchant."
"Nice to meet you Logan. Yip is really cute."
"Logan is part werewolf. So he adopted Yip when Yip's father died." Garroth continued
"Aww! That's so nice of you Logan!"
"Well Donna sort of made me..." Logan replied, sighing. Just than a young lady walked over to where we were talking.
"I made you do what?" The woman asked. I presumed her to be Donna.
"Um, nothing Donna. We were just talking about how..." Logan started.
"We can talk about it later. Did you get the materials to build our new house?" Donna asked hopefully.
"They are supposed to be here soon. Anyway, why don't you introduce yourself to (E/C) here while I go help Yip." Logan said and picked up Yip.
"Oh my gosh! I am so sorry! I'm Donna, Logan's wife. I have been super stressed out about building our new house ever sense we got married."
"Oh, uhhh," I stuttered.
"Umm, excuse us Donna. We have something important to talk about." Garroth started walking away. I started to follow until Donna grabbed my arm and whispered in my ear, "He's single ya' know." I blush and Donna smiles. I jog to catch up with Garroth.
He leads me to a building that looks like it once was a guard training center. He leads me to the upstairs and opens the door to a room. I step inside and realize that this is probably Garroth's room. I blush.
"So," Garroth starts, "you wanted to talk about something?" We both sit down on his bed.
"Uhh, yeah. Umm,"I stutter.
"There's no need to be shy." Garroth says as he takes off his helm.
"Umm, yeah. So, some of the villagers are just kind of worried about you."
Garroth looked confused. "Really? Why?"
I take a deep breath. " I am only telling you this because I am a fellow guard, or I hope to be soon."
"Mmkay."
"Well, they, uhh, are kind of worried about your future. I mean, romantic-wise."
GARROTH'S POV
I could tell I was blushing. "I guess I have never really thought about it" I lied. I looked down, trying to hide my blushing. Aphmau didn't like me so, I guess I didn't really have anywhere to go.
"I know how you feel. I have never really thought about it either. The only reason any guys have ever liked me is because of... because of my father..." I looked up at her. Her head was down and she was tracing her finger over my bed sheet. I moved closer to her and gave her a little side-hug. She looked up at me and smiled.
"Look," I started, " I have never told anyone in my whole life about this, not even Aphmau." She looked up in surprise. I kind of surprised myself.
"Isn't it her duty to know her guards well?"
"Well, yeah, but she doesn't know this one thing. You have to promise me you won't tell her or anyone else."
"I promise, and, in return, I'll tell you my secret." She said and entwined her fingers in mine.
"Umm, well. Do you know the village of Okasis?" She nodded.
"Well, umm. The Lord..." she nodded again.
"Is my father."
YOUR POV
I felt all the color drain out of my face.
Okasis. I was supposed to marry the eldest son of the Lord of Okasis a year ago until we received word that the son had escaped and gone elsewhere. I had admired the action he chose and followed in his path by running away.
"Umm, by any chance, are you the oldest son in your family?" I questioned slowly.
"Uhh, yeah. I was supposed to marry a princess from Thurmond but I ran away last minute. I think it's wrong to marry someone against their will or your will." Garroth played with our fingers as he spoke.
I nodded heavily. Garroth looked at me. "Now tell me your secret." I looked up at him. I could tell that he had just shared his deepest, darkest. most well kept secret, and I wasn't about to be outdone.
I took a gulp of air before telling Garroth my secret."Umm, Garroth. I am that princess."
