YOUR POV
Lydia was taken aback by my outburst. "I'm sorry Miss. I thought you were told all the details by your friend, Serina."
She's not my friend anymore...
"I thought that's what your ring was for."
I looked down at my left hand to find my engagement ring Garroth had given me.
Garroth.
I burst into tears and Lydia's eyes widened with worry.
"Miss, are you alright?"
I sniffled before nodding.
"Would you like some water, Miss?"
I nodded again.
Lydia rushed out of my room.
I broke down again. Tears flowed freely down my face and onto the white pillow, creating little blotches all over.
A hollow knock on the door caused me to stop crying.
"Come on in, Lydia." I wiped away my tears as she entered the room.
"Here, Miss." She handed me the water which I drank happily. I finished the water and set the glass on the nightstand.
I scooted over on the edge of the bed and patted the seat next to me.
Lydia looked surprised at first, but then sat next to me.
I turned to her. "Lydia, do you know who I am?"
Lydia nodded, before brushing her black hair out of her face. "Yes. You are Miss (Y/n), the eldest Princess of Thurmond."
I nodded before looking at the wall that had a small stained glass window.
"I used to be. The reason I'm in Scaleswind is to marry the Prince, correct?"
Lydia nodded. "Yes, Miss. But why do you say used to be? Your father is still alive, is he not?"
I shook my head. "My father is very much alive. I say used to because... well... About a year ago, I ran away from Thurmond and my father. He wanted me to marry a Prince for a treaty between the two villages.
I wanted to choose my own husband, though. I wanted to love him, not because I was forced to, but because I chose to do so.
I wanted him to love me for me. Not for my father's riches or power. So I ran.
I made it to a different village, met a man. And fell in love, We had twins, a boy and a girl; Finn and Ophelia."
Lydia was really interested. "Did you really, Miss?"
I nodded. "We were engaged. We had our own house to keep us safe in. My fiancé was a guard, and he went on patrol one-day. I fell asleep sense the twins were taking a nap. I woke up to flames. I rushed upstairs to grab the twins. But I was too late. Shadow Knights had over-run our village. Two of them had Finn and Ophelia ad I burst into the room. The jumped out the window and were cornered by my fiancé. I rushed out of the house to find my fiancé dead and my two children gone. Then, my so called "friend", Serina, helped me out of the village and here. I passed out along the way and didn't realize where we were going..."
Lydia nodded in understanding. "Wow, Miss. Is that is from your... dead... fiancé?"
I nodded slowly. "Yes, Garroth..."
Lydia looked down at her lap before shooting up. "Oh my! Miss! I am so sorry! I forgot my task! You are to meet you new fiancé tonight over dinner, U was to help you into your dress!"
I looked down. "I'm being forced to marry someone I do not know nor love, correct?"
Lydia nodded sadly.
I sighed. "The exact thing I ran from."
"I wouldn't worry about that too much, Miss. The Princess won't stand for it."
"The Princess?"
Lydia nodded. "You'll meet her at this dinner."
She looked down at her watch. "We have 1 hour and 45 minutes to get you ready, Miss."
I nodded slowly. "Okay..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I looked down at the poofy red dress I was wearing.
Lydia was amazing at hair and make-up.
My silver hair fell around my shoulders in soft curls. I had black eye-make-up on with bright red lipstick.
When I looked into the mirror, I wasn't myself. It was like looking into the mirror for the first time when my shadow knight's side-effects came.
My eyes didn't shine. They were dull and lifeless.
Lydia came back into y room with a necklace.
I refused to take off my engagement ring. She had warned me that the Prince and the Lord were not going to be happy with that, but I still refused.
So, Lydia thought of a solution.
I looked at the necklace with curiosity.
It didn't look like a normal necklace.
"Miss, this is a very special necklace. It is made for wearing a ring on it. It was my mother's."
Lydia hooked it around my neck before gently slipping my ring onto it.
"Lydia, if this was your mother's, you shouldn't give it to me..." I reached up to unclasp it, but Lydia stopped me.
She flashed me a smile. "I'm 16, Miss. I have no need for it. When I'm engaged, I'm going to wear my ring on my finger, Miss." She giggled. "And it might be a while, especially sense I live in this castle."
I smiled gratefully at her. "Thank you Lydia."
"It's really not a problem, Miss."
I smiled and looked at my reflection in the mirror. Although my eyes didn't shine, my ring did. It made up for my eyes.
"Are you ready, Miss?"
I sighed. "I believe so."
Lydia led me out the door into a huge hallway.
Maids rushed all over although one lady stood out. She wore a puffy pink dress.
"Who's that?"
Lydia looked where I was looking and her eyes lit up with recognization. "That's the princess!"
"Hey, Princess!" I picked up my dress and as much as I can in high-heels, ran over to her.
She turned around as Lydia tried to keep up with me.
As the princess turned around, my eyes widened.
"Nicole?!?"
"(Y/n)! Hey! I would love to talk, but I have to go meet Ashton's new fiancé! He said they have been dating for a while and he asked her last night!" She looked so excited.
I bit my bottom lip, a habit I tend to do when I'm nervous.
"There you are, Miss! I see you met the Princess. She's the one I was talking about. I'm sure she'll disapprove of yours and the Prince's wedding!"
"Wedding? YOURS and ASHTON'S wedding?!? (Y/n), what's going on?!?"
