"Alex!!!" My mother screamed, causing me to put down my pencil on the homework assignment I was working on. It was finally Friday and I was just ready to get my homework done and relax.

"Yeah!?" I screamed through my door to wherever she was. In a second she bursted through my door like a cop with a spatula in her hand. I know I must not be the only one with a crazy parent. At least my dad was cool.

"We are having a barbeque today with some people. Brenda's son will be coming too, and since you guys are about the same age I want you to keep him company." After the rest of my week went so perfectly I guess it was a matter of time for things got stupid again.

"No thanks." I said plainly and continued on my homework.

"It wasn't a question. And please leave that bad mood behind when you come down." She left and I groaned loudly.

Everyone just arrived, and I made sure my flowy blue top was smoothed down. Since it wasn't too hot yet, I stuck with some jeans and sneakers to finish my look.

I was standing at the grill with my dad laughing about something that happened to my mom at work. They worked at the same business, but it required a plane to get there from home, and since I refused to switch schools they would fly over and stay usually just overnnight. Besides that, they would go to a mini extension of the business to do simple work, but about two times a week their presence at the actual building was needed. Then they would spend a good deal of their other time in the mini extension, and usually my mom (having a lesser position) would stay home more often doing work on her computer.

I looked over at the people talking, my mom in full conversation with Brenda. Then I saw Clyde sitting at a table, alone, looking through his phone. Some guys came over to talk to my dad, and when I relooked at my mom she was glaring at me then she looked over to Clyde, signaling me to go over.

I groaned again and walked over to the table with a burger and sat opposite to him. He didn't acknowledge my presence and I felt extremely awkward.

He seemed fine just texting on his phone, but after taking a bite out of my burger I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. I thought about how he was mean and it was best to stay quiet. And so I did.

After about 5 minutes, that felt more like an hour, I couldn't help how bad I was feeling being so quiet. I accepted the regret I would feel later and spoke up, "So, um, how are you?" I fiddled with my nails nervously waiting for him to respond.

"Good." He said simply, not trying to continue the conversation.

"Do you want a burger?" I tried again, remembering how he had not grabbed anything to eat.

"No." He remained looking downwards at his phone.

"Okay." I mumbled to myself, although he could hear, and left. There was no point staying there anymore.

Not too long after I left did the barbeque officially ended, but there was still some people talking to my parents. Afterwards, my mom asked me why I left, but she seemed a bit understanding after I gave her my story. Now was Saturday and my parents had gone for the day and wouldn't come back till Sunday night.

I was watching Shrek on my couch admiring the concept of the movie. I was a huge softie for cartoons and rarely wathed anything else. It was about 9:40 and I was feeling bored and I had the munchies. I lazily made my way to the kitchen checking the pantry for some chips. When there was nothing in there I sank to the ground and cursed life for making me have to work for things.

I grabbed $5 and my keys and took a lance glance at Shrek before I made my way out the door.

The store was only two blocks away, and my neighborhood was pretty peaceful at night. I grabbed some popcorn, twizzlers, soda, and ofcourse some chips. On my way back I couldn't help but grab a twizzler.

Some very low sounds were coming from an alley way I was approaching, and when I looked in I saw some people beating up someone else. I walked back and hid behind some stairs checking my pockets for my phone. Then I remember I left it at home. I cursed under my breath, upset because it was so dark, I wasn't able to make out who the attackers were.

Then I heard fast footsteps and held my breath as 4 guys ran out and into a car that sped away. My heart beat was so fast I thought it would explode. I was just happy they hadn't seen me.

I got up after a couple of minutes and looked in the alley way, the person was still there on the ground. I ran over and bent down to help them up. My heart was still beating like crazy and when I saw it was Clyde, I thought it might stop completely.
