Chapter 44 ~ Our Last Goodbye

Alex and I sat in an abandoned conference room. Raven sat in my lap laying her head on my chest. Alex played with the string that was hanging from his jacket hood. We were all tired and some of us were in pain (thank goodness they didn't do anything to Raven). I looked down at my wrist to see rope burn marks reminding me of where I just hung.

All of the sudden the door flew open and our parents were pushed into the room. Mom's eyes were cloudy with tears and dad looked like he was about to throw something at a wall.

"Mom! Dad!" Alex screamed and threw himself out of his chair, hurling himself at our parents. Mom caught him and held him tight.

Dad walked up to me, patted me on the back, and grabbed Raven from my lap. I stood up and hugged them both, I could feel dad shaking out of anger. I only remember that happening one other time and I was the one to cause it. Worst week of my life.

"Dad they tried," I started to say but he cut me off," We know. They made us watch. You're okay now."

Alex pulled away from mom and they walked to our side," Why did they let us go so quickly? We thought we were going to die." Alex went to hug dad as mom took Raven," We saw the guns."

Mom and dad looked at each other and had a silent conversation. Tears were now slowly sliding down mom's face, giving a sad shine to her cheeks. I also started to see tears in dad's eyes, but he would never let them spill.

"Well," dad started," We traded our lives for yours."

"What? No!" Alex cried.

Mom gave a sad smile," It's what parents do," she turned and looked straight at me. She put her hand on my cheek," No matter what happens I want you to take care of your siblings. Find a way out of here. If you can save the others as well. Never leave you brother and sisters side. Please raise Raven like we would have." Mom then cupped my face and kissed my forehead. Dad gave me a hug that even felt like the last. Then after mom squeezed Raven, kissed her and gave her to dad. Dad did the same then gave Raven to me.

Next mom went to Alex," Please listen to your brother. Do what he says. Help him with your sister and stay in school. I know what is about to happen will be hard for you both, but there is nothing we can do. If you guys are in trouble, it is our job to take it away." As mom went to kiss him, Alex burst into tears. When dad hugged him we all drew together for one last group hug.

Suddenly the door opened and four erasers walked into to take our parents away.
