Haiden's POV
(Twenty Three days After)

I got home from work early and set the paper bag I carried down on the counter. Immediately after I grabbed a clean washcloth and brought it to my mothers room. I entered the room than sat down on the bed and checked her forehead. Her fever had gone down. Thank god.

I set my hand on her forearm and with a gentle shake, I awoke her. "Mom, it's time to get up, it's time for your doctors appointment, remember?"

Her eyes fluttered open and she looked at me. At first she was confused but than a smile lit up her face. I couldn't help but smile back. I loved seeing her smile, it helped ease the pain a little.

"I remember Haiden." Slowly she brought her arms forward. I placed my hand on her forearm and helped steady her as she pushed herself up into a sitting position. I pulled the blankets back and she slid her legs over the side of the bed.

Slowly she stood up and her legs were a little shaky at first, but after she was used to standing again her legs steadied and she was able to walk, as long as she took it slow.

"I'll be right outside in the kitchen, change and call if you need me." I said to her.

She nodded and I walked out the door, letting it slide close behind me. I went into the kitchen and sat down in the chair at our rickety old table. The wood was slightly damaged, chipped and scarred, but it had been part of our family for years. Neither of us wanted to give it up.

I tapped my fingers on the table as I waited.

Her appointment was at 2 o'clock, it wouldn't take more than an hour and a half. I could get her home and back in bed to relax and sleep, or even sit and do puzzles on the couch or work at the table, just something before I left.

She came out of the room and slowly walked down the hallway. I stood up from the table and walked down to meet her, taking her arm in a light hold. She laughed as she looked up at me, the glint in her eye that she always held.

"You don't need to help me. I can get there myself."

I shook my head. "The reason for a son is to help his mother." She laughed again at me.

"Alright, just not too much." I nodded as I pulled out her chair and helped her to sit.

"I got you chicken soup from the market today. I thought it might be nice to change it up a bit." I went to the counter and opened the paper bag. I pulled out the carton of soup and crackers and than grabbed a spoon from the drawer or utensils.

"Haiden! You didn't have to do that!" I set it down on the table and popped the lid off the top of the bowl. I opened the bag of crackers and set the spoon inside.

"It's fine Mom, you needed it."

She shook her head as she looked at me. "No, I know this costs a lot of points. Will you have enough to eat?" She asked.

I knew she wouldn't be happy with this. I should've known overlooking this would've been too good to be true. She would rather lay her life in the line, not eat at all so that I may live, so that I may eat plentiful.

"I have more than enough mom." The pin that Angel had given me helped. I had just enough for the soup and luckily I had a little left to spare and was able to get myself some small things to eat before more points came in next month.
