I looked over at Maddie, who already looked like she was falling asleep. I was far from falling asleep, so I grabbed my diary from the drawer of my nightstand and began writing.

Dear Diary,

It's 11:30 at night, and I can gladly say that the sleepover so far has been a success! Maddie had a great time! We ate pizza, had snacks, watched some TV, danced and did each other's nails! I think---
---
Just then, I heard Maddie whisper my name. I looked over, noticing Maddie looking at me.

"You okay?" I asked.
"Yeah..." Maddie nodded. "But can I tell you something?"

I nodded.

"I never meant to be a bully to you..." Maddie said. "I just wanted to be tough like my Dad so that he would stop hitting me..."

My eyes widened, I was surprised at that, but at the same time I wasn't.

"Then, when you stopped coming outside, and then when you stood up to me, I kinda felt weak and foolish again, and that's when he began hitting me again..."

I then began feeling bad for that day. I took Ava and Kelly away from her, and she suffered. If I would have known that, I would have actually helped her even more than I am now.

"I'm sorry from taking Ava and Kelly from you..." I said.
"Don't worry about that..." Maddie said. "They hated me since the first time I picked on you..."
"Maybe I can tell them what you're going through?" I asked.
"I don't want anybody else to know..." Maddie said.

I nodded. She then changed the subject.

"Thanks for inviting me over tonight..." Maddie said. "This was probably the best night I have ever had!"
I smiled. "I felt like you needed it."

I then became curious.

"How did you tell your Dad about the sleepover?" I asked.
"Dad wasn't home..." Maddie explained. "It just so happened to be his night where he hangs out with his friends. So I told my mom and she immediately took me over here."

Maddie then changed the subject again.

"I don't see why my Dad hates your Dads, or when people have two moms..." Maddie said. "Your Dads are amazing! And they do things to help others! All my Dad does is hurt me and my mom! Why can't we all just get along?"

Maddie began tearing up.

"Maddie, it's not your fault or your Dad or Mom's fault..." I said. "Your Dad just made the wrong decision and your mom feels threatened by him."
"I-I guess..." Maddie said. "I just wish there was something I could do to stop this without ruining my family..."

I wanted to say what Daddy S had told me earlier in the morning, but I stayed silent.

Pretty soon, Maddie turned over to fall fast asleep, I continued writing.

I think this sleepover made me feel closer to Maddie. She isn't mean or cruel, she just needs help. I want to try to help her as much as possible.

I smiled as I finished my entry. I then put my diary away and turned off the light.

The next day as I woke up, I looked over next to me, noticing Maddie gone. I immediately got out of bed and went downstairs.

"Daddy M, where's Maddie?" I asked.

Daddy M then turned to me seriously.

"Honey, her father knows about the sleepover..." Daddy M explained. "He came to the door around 8 in the morning and demanded we wake her up."
"Her Dad took her?" I asked concerned, he nodded. "Daddy, he could be hurting her!"
"I know..." Daddy M mumbled. "Which is why I called the cops a few minutes after he left..."

I went wide eyed.

"Daddy! That will ruin everything!" I exclaimed.
"Honey, everything will be fine!" Daddy M assured me. "The cops have been notified, they will take care of Maddie and her mom and take them someplace safe!"
"W-Where will they go?" I asked.
"I dunno..." Daddy M shrugged.
"Will I ever see her again?" I asked.
"Maybe..." Daddy M shrugged again.

I then shook my head as I ran up the stairs, slammed the bedroom door and locked it.
