Later on that night, I heard the same exact knock on my door as I've been hearing for the past several hours after leaving the school.

"Em, please open the door." Daddy M told me. "Me and Daddy S are worried about you."
"I'm fine, Dad." I claimed.
"We know when you're fine and when you're not, Em." Daddy S said. "And we're going to keep knocking on this door until you answer it."

I rolled my eyes and finally got out of my bed and walked over to the door and opened it, letting them both in. They both sat down on my bed with me.

"Em, I know why you're upset." Daddy M began.
"How?" I asked. "I was never down there to tell you what happened."
"The school called after finding out you didn't attend the rest of your classes." Daddy S explained. "I had them ask why and they told me how the assistant principal was having a talk with you."
"Yeah, about how I can't go to prom." I mumbled. "I don't know how I'm going to explain this to May..."
"I know you're upset about this, Em, I think it's unfair too." Daddy M continued. "Unfortunately, we can't fix all the problems in the universe."
"I know..." I said.
"Just think, there are other people who can't go to the school prom because of the same thing you're going through." Daddy S explained. "Or because they have no date in general."
"I know..." I said again.

Daddy S and Daddy M looked at one another and then smiled at me.

"You know, we could always have our own prom." Daddy S said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Just you, May, and some of our friends could help set something up." Daddy S said.
I smiled, "I appreciate it, but I would rather just tell May and maybe we can suggest something else."
Daddy S and Daddy M nodded. "Okay, sweetheart." Daddy M said. "But we're still here if you change your mind."
I smiled, "Okay... Thanks Dads."

They both gave me a hug and a kiss before leaving me alone in the room again.

I then took a deep breath and took out my phone as I began texting May the news.

(E-Emily, M-May)

E: I have bad news... We can't do prom
M: IK, your school committee called and told us.
E: I'm so sorry May...
M: Idk why they didn't tell us before we paid for tickets.
E: They want money, that's why.
M: Ain't that the truth.
E: So what should we do?
M: Idk... Maybe just have our own date night that night?
E: I guess that makes sense. We'll talk about it later.
M: Okay

I felt relieved that I didn't have to tell her anything since she already knew, but I felt bad for her because I knew this was something we were both looking forward to.

Moments later, my phone buzzed and I saw that somebody was calling me. It was Dana.

"Dana?" I asked. "What's going on?"
"I heard you and May were kicked out of prom?" Dana asked.
"Not kicked out, just not allowed." I responded, "but how do you know that?"
"Because I'm part of the student committee, who is part of the school committee and runs prom." Dana explained.
"Oh yeah..." I responded.
"I'm really sorry that happened." Dana said. "If I was head of the student committee or something I could've actually done something, but I couldn't."
"It's okay, it's not your fault." I assured.
"But that's not why I wanted to call you." Dana changed the subject. "I called because I wanted to offer something that could still let you and May into the prom."

I became annoyed, because I hate when this happens.

"Why didn't you say that in the first place?" I asked.
"Because I didn't want to make it sound like I was making fun of you or something." Dana responded.
"Well, what is it?" I asked.
"I know this sounds crazy, but it's the only way you two can get it and at the same time go as a prom date." Dana explained.
"Okay." I said.
Dana sighed, "I can take both of you to the prom, and the two of you can be my date."
My eyes widened, "what?"
"I know it sounds crazy..." Dana explained. "But I looked over the rules and it says that a guy or a girl can have more than one date as long as both dates are the opposite gender."
"So people can take more than one date but they won't let two people of the same gender go out together?" I exclaimed. "That makes total sense!"
"But this time, Emily, they cannot turn you down, no matter what they told you before. You two can still have your date that you've wanted this whole time!" Dana stated.
"But what about the tickets?" I asked. "Don't I have to rebuy them?"
"No, I'll just have to buy one more ticket for myself under your name." Dana said.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Completely." Dana responded.

I was silent for a moment as I thought about it. In a way, he was right. May and I both have been looking forward to this the entire time and this is another opportunity for us.

"Okay, I'll let you know what May says and then we'll take it from there." I told him. "Thank you."
"Anytime." Dana said before hanging up.

I then immediately went and told May the call I had with Dana. She asked the same exact things I asked Dana and I responded with exactly what Dana said.

After a few moments of no response, she finally texted back.

M: Ok, I'm in.
