Dear Diary,

My first week of middle school completely sucked. I didn't make any friends like Ava and Kelly have promised me. It wouldn't surprise me that they made friends their first week. It wouldn't surprise me if they stopped hanging out with me...
I heard next week though they're changing some things around in the school to help make sure students get a full time for lunch. They will divide each grade into small sections each period so that they can have lunch and then they will go out for their usual recess. Maybe this will help me to make friends in some of the other grades?
Who knows... We'll have to see...

That Saturday, we got a phone call from May's mom. Daddy S answered it. It first started out as a nice "how have you been" type of conversation, but then things grew serious.

"What's wrong?" Daddy M asked.
"Apparently May has been kicked out of her dance classes too..." Daddy S said. "Because her aunts had to bring her into dance and I guess Mrs. Gina saw it."
"That's ridiculous!" Daddy M exclaimed. "Those are just her aunts, they're not her parents!"
"I guess anytime Mrs. Gina sees any student with a homosexual family member she'll remove them from the studio." Daddy S claimed.

Daddy M shook his head.

"What a homophobic asshole!" Daddy M exclaimed.
"Mark..." Daddy S said to Daddy M, remembering I heard what he said.
"It's okay..." I shrugged. "I won't repeat it... I'm hearing the seventh and eighth graders say it anyways at school."
"But that's not the only reason she called." Daddy S continued. "She says sometime this afternoon she wants us to join her and a bunch of other people in a protest in front of the studio."
"Sure! Let's go for it!" Daddy M exclaimed. "Let's teach that bitch a lesson!"
"Are you sure?" Daddy S asked. "Because if we protest, won't it give us more of a bad name?"
"No of course not!" Daddy M responded. "Sean, this woman has kicked out almost every single student in that studio because they at least had one homosexual family member! You think that's fair for the student?"
"No..." Sean shook his head.
"Then there's a good reason right there!" Daddy M said.
"Can I do it with you guys?" I asked.
"They told us May was going to be there..." Daddy S said. "And her aunts."
"Then let's go for it!" Daddy M explained.
Daddy S sighed. "Alright... We'll Go..."
---
Later on that day, we pulled up into the parking lot of the studio. Already, dozens of people were behind the studio, getting ready for the protest. Daddy M and Daddy S met up with May's mom. I smiled and met up with May.

"I haven't seen you in forever!" May smiled.
"Me neither!" I smiled.

Daddy M approached me and May.

"Alright girls, here's the deal..." Daddy M said. "When this protest begins, I want you girls to go into my car..."
"Why?" I asked. "I thought you wanted us to be a part of it!"
"We feel like if we involve any of the kids, it will be bad for you as far as coming back here if we win this." Daddy M explained.
"Okay..." I nodded.

We followed Daddy M over to the car, where he put us in the back seat. We watched as Daddy M left the car and the protest began.

We couldn't hear what exactly they were saying, but we could hear them chanting and holding up signs. One sign that caught my eye was a sign of the homosexual flag with a quote saying "Let Us Dance"

At one point during the protest, one at a time, the parents stood on a box and gave speeches, probably about how their children were affected. At one point, May's aunts and Daddy M stood up on that box and gave their own little speeches.

Suddenly, we heard tons of sirens as a bunch of police cars suddenly began pulling up to the studio and arresting people, including Daddy S, Daddy M and May's aunts and her parents.

"OH NO!" May cried.
"Wait, we can't go out there!" I cried.
"But our parents and my aunts!" May cried.

I suddenly noticed Daddy M's phone in one of the cup holders in the car.

"Just stay here!" I shouted.

I went into Daddy M's contacts and called Uncle Ryan.

"Hello?" Uncle Ryan picked up.
"U-Uncle Ryan it's Emily!" I cried. "We're at the studio because Daddy M and Daddy S were protesting with a bunch of other people and now the police are here arresting everybody!"
"Where are you at now, Em?" Uncle Ryan asked.
"B-Behind the studio in Daddy M's car with my friend!" I panicked.
"Okay listen Em..." Uncle Ryan exclaimed. "Hide on the floor of the car so that nobody can see you! I'm right around the corner from the studio! I'll be right there!"

Me and May did what he said and hid in the floor of the car, shaking and holding hands, scared that we would be seen by the cops. Luckily we weren't.

Eventually, everything grew silent as the cop cars began driving off, their sirens blaring in the distance.

It was just me and May, all alone for those few minutes. Both of us shaking and crying.

Suddenly, we heard a knock on the window which made me jolt. Thankfully, it was Uncle Ryan. I immediately unlocked the front door so that he could get in. He used a spare car key given by Daddy M to start up the car and drive off.
