Twenty Seven: New & Older friends

I woke up to my alarm, much moodier than I usually would wake up. I guess because it's Monday, and I know I'll be going to school the same exact way I was last week.

But then I realized something. The school switched lunch and recess around so that fifth, six, seventh and eighth graders are all together eating lunch during their assigned lunch period.

This gave me hope. Hope that I could actually make friends with maybe a sixth, seventh or eighth grader. I probably wouldn't like being friends with an eighth grader because they're moving to high school next year, but at least I would be happy knowing I have somebody to hang out with and I wouldn't be alone.
---
As I entered the cafeteria during lunchtime, and after grabbing my lunch, I noticed three older girls sitting where I usually sat. I just stood there, wondering what to do.

They all suddenly looked at me.

"Hi..." One girl said to me. "Are you okay?"
"Oh..." I said becoming nervous. "S-Sorry this is where I usually sit, but I-I guess with these new rules, you can sit there..."
"You can still sit here with us!" Another girl said.
"A-Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yeah, absolutely!" The third girl smiled.

I hesitated but then moved over next to them.

"I'm Lyndsey..." The first girl introduced herself. "And these are my friends Taylor and Shannon."
"H-Hi..." I waved. "I'm Emily..."
"You're a new face around here." Taylor claimed. "Are you a fifth grader?"
I nodded.
"Hey, don't sweat it much, those three years fly by." Shannon said. "It feels like yesterday I was in your shoes."
"Really?" I asked.
"Totally!" Shannon nodded.

I then noticed Lyndsey whispering something to Taylor.

"What's wrong?" I asked.
"Oh, nothing." Lyndsey said. "We're just telling each other about what happened in our English class today."
"Oh..." I said. "I wish I had stuff to share."
"I'm sure you do!" Taylor assured. "What's your favorite hobby?"
"I used to dance... But I don't anymore." I said.
"Why? What happened?" Shannon asked.
"A new manager..." I explained. "She kicked me out because I had two dads, and---"

I suddenly paused and my heart raced. I accidentally told them I had two dads when I wasn't supposed to.

"And... What?" Lyndsey asked.
"You're not bothered by the fact that I have two dads?" I asked.
"No... Not at all..." Lyndsey said, the other girls agreeing with her. "Why would it bother us?"
"Because it always bothered my old friends' parents, and of course it bothered the new dance studio manager..." I explained.
"Well, let me tell you something..." Shannon began. "Society is completely messed up. They expect you to believe one thing is good and nothing else, when in reality, everything is just the same."
"That's what my dads told me..." I said. "I just wish it wasn't like that."
"Trust me, we wish the same thing." Taylor said.

We continued eating our lunch before the staff had us go outside for recess. Lyndsey, Taylor and Shannon let me walk with them outside out to the volleyball court.

"You wanna play volleyball with us?" Lyndsey asked.
"I'm not that good..." I said.
"Don't worry, we're not either!" Shannon assured.

I finally decided to play. Lyndsey and I were on one side while Shannon and Taylor were on the other side. While playing the game, I found out I was better at serving the ball while Lyndsey was better at actually hitting the ball.

Finally, the whistle blew that ended our recess time and Lyndsey and I ended up winning.

"Awesome game!" Lyndsey exclaimed.
"Are we doing it again tomorrow?" I asked.
"We might just sit and chill tomorrow." Shannon said. "But you're definitely invited to eat lunch and hang out again with us tomorrow."

I smiled and nodded.

We then parted ways so I could meet up with the other fifth graders, who all stared at me over the fact that I was hanging out with eighth graders. I didn't really mind, I think it was awesome having eighth grade friends.
---
During dinner that night, I told Daddy M and Daddy S about my new friends.

"I met and became friends with three eighth grade girls today." I explained. "Their names are Lyndsey, Shannon and Taylor."
"Really?" Daddy M asked.
"Yeah!" I nodded.

Daddy S was silent.

"What's wrong?" Daddy M asked.
"I just don't know if I like the fact that she's hanging out with these girls." Daddy S said.
"What? Why?" I asked. "They're really nice! They gave me advice, let me play volleyball and everything!"
"I know, but there are probably tons of seventh and eighth graders who watch what we do and have seen you whenever we in lid you in our videos." Daddy S explained.
"Sean, kids in her grade and everybody below her know who we are!" Daddy M exclaimed. "Nobody has ran over to her and bothered her about it!"
"I know Mark, but I feel like there will come a point where that does happen." Daddy S argued.
"I'll ignore it when that happens, I promise." I assured him.
"See? Our baby girl knows what she's doing." Daddy M assured him.
"Alright..." Daddy S sighed.

After dinner, I went upstairs and did my homework.

Dear Diary,

I made three new friends during lunch and recess today! They're eighth graders, but they seem really nice! We talked during lunch and played volleyball together during recess. I really hope this friendship actually lasts.

The next day during recess, Lyndsey, Shannon, Taylor and I were sitting on the picnic tables just hanging out and relaxing.

"Hey Emily..." Lyndsey said. "The girls and I are having a slumber party Friday night at my place if you want to join."
I smiled. "Yeah, I'd love to!"
"Awesome!" Lyndsey said. "It'll be a party dedicated to making new friends."
"That sounds amazing!" I smiled, getting all excited.
---
Later on that night, I told Daddy M and Daddy S about the slumber party I was invited to.

"I'm sorry Em, but I really don't think you should go to this party..." Daddy S said.
"What? Why?" I asked.
"Those girls are older than you are." Daddy S explained. "Who knows what they're going to have at that party?"
"They said it was a party dedicated to having new friends!" I explained.
"I know sweetie..." Daddy S said. "Maybe next time..."
"But I'm really good friends with them now, Daddy!" I said.
"Your Dad is right..." Daddy M stated. "Maybe after you get to know them a little better, then we'll let you go."

I gave them a stern look before running upstairs, laying on my bed and crying. I didn't know how I was going to explain this to them. What if this ruins our friendship?
---
I must have fallen asleep, but I saw the door opening and the hallway light gleaming through the wall. I kept my back to the door though. Through the floofy hair, I could tell it was Daddy M.

He walked over, sat down on my bed and leaned right next to me. I pretended to be asleep.

"Don't worry, baby girl..." Daddy M whispered. "We'll get you to that party..."

He then kissed me on the cheek before leaving the room.

I opened my eyes, totally surprised. Then I got excited. I was actually going to go to that sleepover!

But then, my mind began racing with one question.

What will Daddy S think??

Sorry for the long delay and long chapter! I wanted to have this one a little longer for the next chapter!

Questions:
What do you think of the girls?
What do you think of Mark's decision?
What do you think will happen at the sleepover?
How do you think Sean will feel?

More coming soon!
