The next day after homecoming, I decided to drive over to May's house and surprise her with flowers and a promise bracelet. I felt nervous because I didn't know whether she was home or not, whether she would accept my gifts, or whether or not she somehow managed to find somebody else since we haven't talked in a while.
As I pulled up into the driveway, I noticed her car in the driveway. She was the only one at the house. I decided to park across the street and quietly make my way to the front porch. After making it to the front porch, I took a deep breath before finally knocking on the door.
It took about a minute, but my heart jolted as she finally answered the door. My heart was racing, but I was still smiling. She covered her mouth in surprise as she saw me with flowers and a gift bag in my hand.
She opened the door and let me in.
"What's this?" May asked.
"May, ever since you told me you had feelings for me, I was really surprised and upset at myself for not seeing it." I confessed to her. "I had to spend the next several weeks trying to make a decision. After much thought, I realized how much I cared about you, but I knew I had to tell Dana how I felt. It definitely wasn't easy, and I was incredibly scared for his response, but after telling him, he gave me the confidence I needed so that I could feel relieved and confident again so that I could come over here and tell you... that I have feelings for you too, May."May just stood there, completely speechless. But I could tell she was getting emotional, but in a happy way.
Suddenly, May embraced me tightly and I hugged her back. She then looked at me as I gave her the flowers.
"You're the best." May smiled.
"I hope you're not still mad at me." I asked her.
"Not anymore." May responded. "I was just at the point where I was going to accept that you were straight, but I didn't expect this at all."
"Well, always expect the unexpected, I guess." I remarked.
"What's this?" May asked, eyeing my gift bag.
I smiled and gave her the bag, "it's a gift for you, duh!"May smiled as she went through the bag and grabbed the small jewelry box. She gasped as she opened the box to reveal the bracelet.
"I love it!" She smiled brightly.
"It's to celebrate a fresh new start." I told her. "And to promise that I will never let you down again."She smiled and hugged me tightly again. It felt great to know that May and I were happy again.

Dear Diary,
I have finally expressed my feelings to May and honestly, I could not have felt more relieved or happy in my entire life. I felt good when Dana asked me out before, but I felt even happier just seeing May and being able to explain everything to her and giving her my gifts. After a little conversation inside her house, we agreed and decided to take our relationship one step at a time just in case something happened.
After telling my Dads everything that happened once I got home, we did a huge celebration after all the hard times I have had these past few weeks. I could not have been more happier in my entire life. My happiness has definitely made up for the dark times that have happened lately. I hope it can stay this way forever!~Em

Dear Diary,
May was my first kiss of 2027. I couldn't have celebrated New Years with anybody more special! Of course my Dads and her family were all there to take the picture of us kissing. Although we weren't embarrassed, we actually expected it.
So cheers to a happy new year and I hope this year is the best year ever!~Em

AprilDuring school, as Ava and I passed the front office to get to our next class, the assistant principal pulled me aside.
"Emily Fischbach, may I have a word?" She asked me.
"Um... Sure." I said.I turned to Ava and Kelly and nodded, telling them to go without me. As we went into the office, my heart was racing. I have no clue what I did wrong, if I even did anything at all. I hope I did something good, but by how she told me that she needed to talk, it wasn't good.
As we went into her office, I sat down and she sat at the desk across from me.
"So Emily, I hear you'll be going to prom this year." The assistant principal said.
"Yes ma'am I am." I responded.
"And I hear you will be going to prom with a girl..." She continued.
I nodded, "My girlfriend, May."
She only nodded before grabbing a handbook. "Well Emily, unfortunately, according to the school rules, a student must have a date in order to attend prom."
"But I do have a date." I stated.
"Emily, a girl going with another girl unfortunately does not count as a prom date." The assistant principal stated. "It must be a boy and a girl date."
My eyes widened, "What? You mean I can't go."
She nodded, "I'm sorry Emily."
"But I already paid for two tickets and reserved a table!" I exclaimed. "I should get a refund or something!"
"I can try and get a refund for you but I cannot guarantee it." The assistant principal claimed.Without saying a word, I shook my head and stormed out of the office. Instead of going to class, I went to my car and drove away from the school and went back home and stayed in my room the rest of the day.
