Without any hesitation, I left the crowd and went into the front office to speak with the vice principal, who was also in charge of the school committee, who held prom every year.

"What seems to be the problem?" The vice principal asked.
"I was put on the bulletin board as one of the nominations for Prom Queen." I explained to the vice principal. "But the problem is, I never signed up to be in it in the first place."
"Well, even though you never signed up for it, people did keep asking for your name to be put in and because of that, we did it." The vice principal explained.
"I would like to be removed from it." I asked seriously and calmly.
The vice principal sighed, "Well, unfortunately, we can't do that."
My eyes widened, "and why not?" I asked.
"Everything has already been arranged, and if you drop out, we'll have to have another debate on who to replace you with." The vice principal explained.
"You mean you don't have any backups?" I asked.
He nodded, "Yeah, I'm sorry Emily."
I gave him a stern look. "So this means I can't bring my date?"
He nodded. "I'm afraid so."

I continued giving him a look before finally walking out of the office and into the hallway.

Dear Diary,

Prom is being a bitch to me again. I've somehow been nominated as Prom Queen for my high school. This means I can't have a date to prom, which means I can't take May. And of course, this year of all years, they changed the rules and finally allowed same sex prom dates.
This is a complete outrage and it wouldn't surprise me if these people who begged them to put me in did it as a joke. It sickens me. I know for a fact that I'm not going to prom. I'm just going to boycott prom and me and May could do something totally awesome together instead of prom.

About an hour later, I got a text from May.

M: So you're not going to prom?
E: Nope, I'm boycotting it. I'm not going to prom without you.
M: And you can't take yourself out?
E: They said no
M: That's stupid...
E: IK...
M: So what should we do?
E: Something totally awesome that's what
M: Like what?
E: You'll see ;)
M: Oh boy...

The day of prom, neither May or I went to school that day. Instead, May's mom had May take a sick day off and me and May spent the entire day together. We first went off to the mall, since nobody was around and since all the crazy deals were made while everyone was at school. After spending most of the morning and some time of the afternoon in the mall, we left and went to the trampoline park. We were able to get free admission with coupons and we were able to spend as much time there as we wanted. But we only spent about possibly 5 hours there.

As we left to go to our final destination, May looked at the time.

"You could be at Prom right now." May told me.
"I know." I responded.
"But won't you get in trouble?" May asked.
"What the hell are they going to do?" I remarked. "They can't expel me for not showing up to be Prom Queen! They have to do a runner up!"
"True." May responded. "But you could've won and I would've been so happy."
"Yeah but that would mean I'd have to dance with some loser from my grade." I said. "And I didn't want that."

We both finally decided to stop talking about prom and headed to our last stop, which was a laser tag center. It took some time to get there but it was totally worth it. May and I couldn't stop laughing and both of us kept winning against other people. But when it came to individual rounds, she kicked my butt every time. Sometimes she would let me win though.

"Okay, that was the most fun I've ever had!" May exclaimed. "So much better than prom!"
"Honestly, I would've chosen this over prom last year." I claimed.
"Yeah, but it's nice to have some experience of prom." May said.
"Yeah, and you made that entire night worth it." I admitted.
"Same with me." She agreed. "We could've slow danced together again."
"Yeah but I wouldn't have been able to since I was nominated." I told her.
"True..." May said.

Before we pulled out of the parking lot to head home, I got a text from Ava, who was at prom.

A: You would've won but they had to choose a runner up!
E: Who won prom king?
A: Steven
E: Thank god I didn't win then
A: Lol XD

I smirked a smile before finally leaving the laser tag center and heading back home.

When we finally got home, it was almost 10pm and May's parents were waiting in their car for her.

"Thanks for a great time!" May smiled.
"Anytime!" I smiled.

We both leaned in and kissed one another before she left the car and went inside her parents car. I waited until their car was no longer in sight to get out of my car and go inside.

Dear Diary,

Tonight totally beat prom. I'm so glad I wasn't there to have to accept the award and have to dance with Steven Stirling aka high school jockey who made fun of my Dads in middle school. I don't care whether he's changed since then or not. I would've never wanted to dance with him.
When will prom have two prom queens and kings as an option? That would be great!
