Dear Diary,

Tomorrow I "graduate" from elementary school and officially become a middle schooler. Elementary school was fun, with a lot of unexpected things, but I'm really looking forward to what middle school has to offer. I know we have our own lockers and go to different classes, which sounds both exciting and scary at the same time. But I'll see what happens when we get there.

I got up for school that day and headed over to the school. It was a half day, and the fourth graders spent most of the time rehearsing for our ceremony at the gymnasium. The stage area had a big line of chairs that sat all the fourth graders. Each of us would receive a medal and special people would receive awards during the ceremony.

After we were done rehearsing, we went outside and played on the playground, where an ice cream truck was waiting for us to give us all free ice cream! I immediately got in line and got my chocolate swirl ice cream that I liked. Me, Ava and Kelly sat down at one of the picnic tables and enjoyed our ice cream.

"This is gonna be the best day ever!" Kelly said. "We're gonna get awards and become middle schoolers!"
"My parents are going to take me out to Chick-Fil-A after the ceremony!" Ava smiled.
"My Daddy's can't go to Chick-Fil-A..." I sighed.
"Well then maybe we can go together, just you and me!" Ava said.
"We could all go!" Kelly said.

After finishing our ice cream, we went and continued playing on the playground until we were called back inside. As we were waiting to go inside, we noticed cars beginning to pull in to attend the ceremony. Before being told to go inside, I could see Daddy M's car pull up into the parking lot. I smiled and became excited.

As we were waiting in the hallways to go backstage, Ava, Kelly and I watched as the younger kids were heading out from their last day of school.

"That's not fair! We should be dismissed before they are!" Ava exclaimed.
"Technically, we've been dismissed this entire day!" I claimed.
"Yeah, and there's a ceremony for us moving up to the middle school, there's not one for them!" Kelly said. I giggled.

Just then, the door opened and one by one, we went backstage and onto the stage and sat down. I was in the very front row and Ava and Kelly were behind me on the other side. I could see Daddy S and Daddy M perfectly. They were right towards the center of the gym area near where an aisle was formed.

Just then, the soon-to-be principal of the school, Mrs. Yearns approached the podium near the edge of the stage.

"Good afternoon ladies and gentleman, my name is Nancy Yearns and welcome to the commencement ceremony, where we will be awarding these students certificates and officially declaring them middle schoolers!"

Everybody applauded. I looked over at Daddy S and Daddy M, who had a surprised look on their faces as they were looking at Mrs. Yearns.

"Before we begin the ceremony, would you all please for our national anthem and say the pledge of allegiance." Mrs. Yearns continued.

Everybody stood up as we listened to the star spangled banner and said the pledge of allegiance. We all then sat down and the ceremony officially began.

"First off, we would like to give out some special awards, given out by all the staff members." Mrs. Yearns explained.

All the awards were given out and there was one left, which was a trophy.

"And now this award goes to the best overall student who from the beginning of her time here to right now, has shown overall excellence in achievement, academics and has shown respect and kindness for her peers." Mrs. Yearns explained. "This year, this award goes to... Emily Fischbach!"

My heart jolted and my eyes widened as I heard my name. But I immediately went out of my seat and accepted the award before sitting back down, with a trophy by my side.

Eventually, we all went up one by one and accepted our certificates and we're officially declared middle schoolers. Everybody stood up and applauded for us before we were all dismissed to be with our families.

I immediately grabbed my trophy and certificate and ran down to Daddy S and Daddy M. Daddy M immediately picked me up and spun around happily.

"I am so proud of you!" Daddy M said, kissing my cheek.
"None of us got that award when we went here!" Daddy S said.
"Because we weren't that smart!" Daddy M responded.
"You're right there!" Daddy S laughed.

Just then, Mrs. Yearns approached us, her eyes widened as she covered her mouth in shock.

"Mark? Sean?" She asked.
"Yes! It's us!" Daddy M said.

Daddy M and Daddy S immediately hugged her.

"You know her?" I asked.
"She was our teacher when we first met!" Daddy S explained.
"Yes, and they were both best friends ever since!" Mrs. Yearns explained.
"Actually we're more than just friends now..." Daddy M said.

Just then, Daddy S and Daddy M showed Mrs. Yearns their wedding rings. She gasped and smiled.

"How long?" She asked.
"Five years..." Daddy M responded.
"And that's exactly around the same time we got Emily." Daddy S continued.

She looked at them and looked at me. She then put her heart on her chest and smiled, getting emotional.

"You two have become such a wonderful family and have raised such an amazing daughter!" Mrs. Yearns explained. "I couldn't be more proud of the three of you..."
"Thank you, Mrs. Yearns..." Daddy M said.
"There's no need to thank me!" Mrs. Yearns said.
"No..." Daddy S said. "Thank you for having us become friends, because if it weren't for you, none of this would have happened."

She smiled again.

"You are very welcome..." She responded.
"Good luck with your new job as principal." Daddy M said.
"Thank you." She nodded. She then looked down at me. "And good luck in middle school, Emily!"
"Thank you!" I said.

Just then, me and Daddy S and Daddy M decided to leave the school. As we went in the car, I took one last glance at my school before the car drove off.

All the memories of elementary school were behind me now.
