I wake up in my hammock. My head aching, damn...a hang over.
"What... Where am I?" I ask.
"You're awake finally." Someone says. I look around to see Kurda and Gavner.
"Huh?" I ask.
"We were worried. You passed out last night and didn't wake up." Kurda says.
"I guess it is best for you not to drink after all." Gavner laughs.
"Ya think." I mumble as move just enough to cause my hammock to turn on a weird angle and make my fall to the rock hard ground below. I groan as I sit up right and glare at the chubby Gavner Purl.
"Here." Kurda says sticking out a hand. I take it and he pulls me up.
"You're just an angel." I laugh, "You probably couldn't hurt a fly, how are you a vampire?"
"An angel? As if!" Gavner gasps in between his laughing fit.
Kurda goes red - either from anger or embarrassment. "Shut up!"
I laugh, but quickly stop when my head starts pounding again. "Ow..."
"You will be fine, though I shouldn't have given you that much." Gavner sighs.
"That was dumb of me to drink it. Where is Darren?"
"Ooo, you just woke up and you're already looking for your lover." Gavner teases.
"Oh shut up."
"He is eating right now. With the others." Kurda informs.
"I see." I say yawning.
"You wanna go there?" Gavner asks.
I shrug, "Why not?"
We get to the Hall of Oscar Velm and instantly spot the group in the large room - it helped to have a bright haired vampire with them.
I sit next to Arra, as per usual.
"You're awake. About time. If you are going to be my assistant you can not be that intolerable." Arra says.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"You must be able to hold your alcohol." She orders.
"That was my first time. It won't happen for a long time."
"I don't think that's how it works though..." Darren adds. "She can't just tell her body to not-"
Arra glares at him and he stops quickly.
"Anyway that better not happen again."
"Arra, cut the kid some slack." Gavner says.
"She must prove herself worthy of being my assistant."
"Arra is all about respect." Kurds explains. "She can't have you around if you are gonna get drunk that fast."
"That's not... fair." Harkat says.
"Neither is life." Arra says.
"Yeah we know." Darren and I say in unison.
We talk for awhile, then night rolled around and people got back to partying except more calm, still not safe - in the slightest - but better.
I decided to sit this out. Everyone was dancing to some music and I just sat and watched everyone else. I sat on the ground even though there was chairs near me that I could sit in.
Darren was sitting at a chair not too far away.
Gavner walks over to him and I continue watching the vampires.
Harkat is eating, some vampires crowding around amazed at his monstrous appreciate.
Mr. Crepsey and Arra dancing together.
Seba talking to some other vampires.
Kurda sitting and listening to old stories.
Vanez was in the hall of sports, fighting - of course.
I sat. Bored. Lonely. Feeling as if I didn't belong. I am not a vampire... I shouldn't be here this isn't for me. I'm still just a little human.
Someone walks up to me and I look up to see it was Darren.
He sticks out a hand.
"Want to dance?" I stare at it, confused, for a few seconds, but then quickly smile and nod my head, grabbing his hand. He pulls me up and we make fools of ourselves trying to learn vampire dances.
We stepped on each others feet a lot and had to apologize to each other a lot. Dang these dances were harder than they looked.
After about half an hour of trying we gave up and danced as humans.
The majority of the songs were all fast pace, but occasionally a slow-ish sing would play and We would stand Around awkwardly and wait for it to pass.
We were in the middle of waiting for one to pass and we were simply talking to one another.
"You don't think it is considered rude to not do the vampire dances, right?" I ask, concerned as I have noticed a few vampires glaring at us every now and then.
"I doubt it. Mr. Crepsley Or Arra probably would have told us this."
"I guess... But you know how they might forget it."
"You're totally over thinking it."
I nod my head, "You're probably right." I laugh nervously.
"I'm gonna go now." I yawn, "Bye."
"OK. See ya tomorrow." Darren says.
"Yeah." I go to our cell, get in my hammock then - for once - sleep.
Life isn't fair. People my age would be dating and going to college, studying, and partying. I'm stuck in a mountain with a bunch of vampires and drinking blood.
To most people what I am doing is torture, but I like it, even for the short time I have been here and the short time that is left.
