Chapter 49

"Happy birthday!!" Everyone cheers.

I hide in the back of the party tent.

"Crap...crap...crap..." I keep chanting.

"Oh, Tux! There you are!" I hear and turn to see the ever energetic Cormac.

"Hello..." I say.

"Where's your gift?"

"Well..."

"You mean you didn't get one?!"

"Woops."

"Its Shancus's eighth birthday and you didn't get him a gift?"

"I never gave Darren or any of my other friends presents..."

Cormac sighs. "The poor guy will be crushed his aunt didn't get him a gift."

"I'm sorry." I say.

Yep. I was at a birthday party for a boy that is my best friends son that is turning eight...and I didn't have a gift. Normally I wouldn't be so beat up about it, but this is Shancus's party.

Merla and Evra made a very cruel rule that states I can't hang out with their kids unless someone else is with me...they don't trust me.

It isn't like I'll gobble them all up - bones and all - I am a responsible adult! I would never let anything happen to them!

"Tux!" Darren pulls me over to the main table.

"Let go of me!" I yell trying to get out of his grip and flee.

He simply laughed at my failed attempt to escape his grasp.

He pushes me closer to Shancus.

I glare at Darren.

"Where's my gift?"

"Well you see. I was really busy and..."

"What?!" Shancus yells. He stands up in his seat and stares at me puffing out his cheeks. "Now, Aunt Tux. That's not very nice. You're supposed to get people gifts for their birthdays!"

I sigh and ruffle his hair. I search my pockets before I snap getting the perfect idea of what to get him. "I just thought of something. I'll be right back~!"

I run out of the tent and head to mine. I search through all my old things and see a picture of me and my family. I smile, but continue digging. I grab the item I want and run back to the party.

"Shancus." I say and hand him the small green stuffed snake that Darren gave me years ago. "Darren gave this to me as a kid. I don't have a use for it, so here."

"You still have that?" Darren asks, laughing.

"Shut up!" I yell. "I was sad over your death so I brought it with me!"

"You're so...tsundere." Cormac retorts.

Confused I tilt my head to the side, but he simply shook his head, "A random word I learned while in Japan...it is nothing don't worry."

I nod my head, remembering to look it up next time we are in civilization.

"I'm touched you kept it after all this time." He smiles at me, "That just shows me how much you care."

~Time Skip~

Before we know it we were camping in the outskirts of a small old town. I was not expecting the Cirque to never stop at such a small and rundown town like this...though we have been to even less populated areas.

The town we were currently staying near was the town Darren and I were born and raised at.

"What are the two of you gonna do?" Evra asks, he knows that this is our old town - he, surprisingly, remembers this place when we first met when the snake was in my face.
