I'm sorry for your loss.
I've said this to people, even though nobody has ever said it to me. Nobody is sorry for me that my parents are dead. Nobody is sorry for me that Toby is dead. Either because I'm a stranger, or because they think that I'm the one who killed them.
I've seen the headlines. The thing I hate isn't that it says that I'm responsible for my parents' death. Which is true. I'm responsible, even if I'm not the one who killed them. But they always say parents, not family.
Maybe they just never found Toby's body. Maybe they're just forgetting about him.
If I didn't see him die, I might think there was hope.
But there isn't.
