Your mouth dropped and you stared at him as if he had gone completely crazy. Actually, you were kinda sure that he had gone completely crazy.

"Why did you do that?" You shook your head and you crossed your arms over your chest. No matter how much you tried to think like him, there was not one part of your brain that could understand that he would give up everything he wanted for a fake marriage.

"Look, I need to restore the Lightwood family honor, okay?" Alec rolled his eyes. He seemed a little annoyed with all the negative reactions he was getting, but why would he have expected something else?

Just because you were his best friend, it didn't mean that you would automatically agree with every stupid thing he was doing. And on a scale of one to Clary, this was clearly the worst form of stupidity you had seen in months and that meant something.

"Lydia wants to lead an institute, I want my family to become like it has once been again. It's a solid partnership." Alec shrugged his shoulders, but you raised your eyebrows.

"A solid partnership?" You almost choked on the words and you had to breath in and out a couple of times before you could think clearly again. "You asked her to marry you, Alec!" You raised your voice. "You do know what being married to someone means, right?" You cocked your head. "It means being together forever, never being able to fall in love with someone else, it means making sure she gets pregnant at some point..." You stopped talking when you saw how Alec swallowed.

"I know." He turned his face away from you. "But I'm not changing my mind."
