Matt was holding your hand and he was faking a smile on his face. He had promised you a romantic date and a picnic near the lake. But ever since he had greeted you with a kiss he had not said a thing anymore.

You didn't know what was going on with him.

He was constantly looking around and the hand that was not holding yours was resting on his gun. He was on edge. He was always on edge and you didn't know why. Thanks to him Mystic Falls was now a vampire free zone. There was nothing to worry about. Not anymore.

"Matt? I'm here?" You waved your hand in front of his face and smiled when his eyes locked with yours. "I have to admit that I had imagined our date a little differently." You cocked your head and shrugged your shoulders. "A little more talking, maybe some kissing, you know, just those normal date things?"

"Sorry..." Matt bent his head and he looked away from you. Again. His hand was sweating in yours and you sighed.

"Look, if we can't turn this whole thing into a romantic date, we can always talk about what's bothering you so much." You paused for a short moment and rubbed his knuckles. "You've just forced all the vampires to leave this town, Matt. That's not nothing!"

He had actually forced his friends to leave this town. Deep down he had known that it was the only way to protect the humans, but it must have been hurting him in some way. "Look, I don't want to bother you with this, okay?" Matt smiled and he took a deep breath. "But sometimes..." He hesitated for a moment. "I'm afraid..." He stopped in the middle of his sentence again. "Look, we both know that they will come back, right?"

You nodded. "Yes, we do. But that doesn't mean that we can't enjoy the here and now." You leaned in a pressed a soft kiss on his nose. "Just because we're having a good time it doesn't mean we're no longer on our guards." You kissed his soft lips and this time you felt how he kissed you back.

"You're right. Let's give it a try." He tucked a strand of hair behind your ear and he smiled. "I'm sorry I ruined the date."
