Request - Drabble Elijah Mikaelson

"This is not possible. It can't be, Y/N..." Elijah was staring at your belly, at the test in your hand, at the two lines that were an absolute impossibility.
"I do not wish to accuse you of anything, but this can't be mine. I'm a vampire. I'm infertile, and have been for a thousand years. There must be some other explanation."

There wasn't. You knew there wasn't. You hadn't paid attention to missing one period. You knew you had only been with Elijah, who couldn't father any children, and there was so much going on that you had thought stress to be the cause of it. But then you missed a second, and despite everything, you got a test. With a result you never thought to see.
"I know how this looks, but I can swear by everything that is dear to me... I did not sleep with someone else. Unless I'm some kind of reincarnation of the virigin Mary, this child is yours."

Elijah stepped closer to you, outstretching his hand.
"May I?", he even asked you before placing it on your belly. "You are indeed with child... I can hear the heartbeat." He sat down, clearly not knowing what to do, what to think.
"I trust you, Y/N. I can hear a lie, and you were speaking the truth. And even when I wouldn't have been able to hear that, I still need to trust you. Which means that by some kind of miracle I can not grasp, I fathered a child." A small smile appeared on his face. "I fathered a child...", he repeated himself, as if he needed the confirmation to truly understand it.

"And you will be the most wonderful father I know...", you answered, relieved he seemed to believe you. "I don't know what happened either, and I'm not sure if we'll ever find out. I just know that Hope will get a niece or nephew, and we will become parents, as much as that thought scares me now."

That made a smile break through on his face.
"You faced numerous dangers with me, and this is what scares you? We'll manage, Y/N. I'm sure about that. Because I trust you to do the right thing, for me, and for this little baby that is growing in you. And know I will be there to protect you, no matter what happens. I will be at your side."
