"What the..." You looked at the scene in front of you, your heart beating in your throat, your hands starting to sweat, your eyes bigger than they had ever been. You wanted to run away, to pretend like this never happened, but somehow your legs refused to move.

"Easy, love..." Klaus walked towards you as if he hadn't just slaughtered a few man in the streets. As if he hadn't had... fangs. As if his eyes hadn't sparkled bright yellow, a color that wasn't even possible. "I can explain... just give me a bit of time." He put his hand on your arm to calm you down, but all he managed to do was the opposite.

"Don't touch me!", you yelled, stepping back. "You're... I don't even know what you are, but you killed them! And you didn't even flinched while doing it!"

Klaus nodded.
"I know, love. And with good reason, I have to say. The world as you know it... it's not as simple as you think it is. There is a lot more to it, mostly matters that can not endure the light of day." He looked at the bright sky, smirking. "Figuratively speaking, that is."

"Yeah, well... that doesn't mean I have to be ok with that. I could live perfectly fine with keeping everything that goes bump in the night in my nightmares, thank you very much." You turned around and wanted to walk away, only to jump up at the sight of Klaus standing in your way.

"Not so fast, sweetheart. You at least owe me the chance to give you an explanation." He cocked his head. looking at you with eyes you couldn't possibly resist. And he knew that.

"Fine." You crossed your arms, waiting for him to start talking. You listened to his story about werewolves and vampires, witches and hybrids, and if you hadn't seen what you had seen, you would have thought he was mad. But you had seen it. You could still see the images, and you didn't know if you would ever lose them.
"And why shouldn't I run away now, leave all of this behind me, and find a safer place to live?"

"I wouldn't blame you if you did, Y/N. It would be the safest option, I can not deny that. But I enjoy you. You are a bit of light in the darkness of this world, and even though I am probably asking you to stay in a war zone, I would offer you my protection while you live in it. Will you please let me do that?"
