You stared at the paper on your desk. You didn't want to be unthankful, but you had worked so hard on this project that being happy with a B didn't feel right. Actually, it didn't feel right at all. You had hoped that this time you would finally get that well deserved A. At least, you had thought that it would be a well deserved A.

"What do you have?" Jackson leaned over towards you, but you quickly grabbed the paper and shove it into your backpack. The last thing you needed was Jackson telling you that he had an A+ with only spending half as much time on it.

"I have to go..." You wanted to stand up from your seat, but Jackson grabbed your wrist and pulled you back.

"I was just asking you what you had. You don't need to stand up and run away." He cocked his head and his lips were forming a straight line. "I'm trying to be nice to you here."

You raised your eyebrows and widened your eyes. "Yes, of course. Jackson Whittemore, number one of our class, is only asking me for my grade and is not interested in showing off his own." You felt the tears rolling down your cheeks and you wished for a hole in the floor to sink into.

"It's just a grade, right?" Jackson shook his head and he swallowed, clearly debating whether he should stand up or should stay.

"You never say that when you get a bad one." You looked up at him and rolled your eyes. "If you want to be a good friend, can you please just hold me? I've worked harder than anyone and I've only gotten a B. I could use someone comforting me right now."

Jackson nodded and he wrapped his strong arms around you, pressing you to his chest. "We can always work together on our next project. I'm sure I can get you your first A ever."
