"And so yeah, that's how I ended up on the swing set." I shrugged and glanced at Shadow's face. Throughout the whole story, his expression never faltered in the slightest. It was like he knew this was coming or something. Mid way through my story, our food came, but neither of us actually finished it all, so we got it to go.
"Ahem" I coughed forcefully. "Aren't you gonna say anything after all that?"
He looked up and cocked an eyebrow. "Do you want me to say something?"
I quickly felt embarrassed and stuttered over my words. "W-w-well usually when you tell a story to a friend, that friend gives you feed back and like, their personal opinion on the situation. "
He pfft. " well this is a surprise, I never knew you considered me as a friend."
"H-huh? Of course I don't see you as a friend! I just, well, um... I guess you aren't as bad as I thought okay? If someone actually took their time to pick me off the street and pay for a meal for me, they can't be all bad." I turned my head and pouted with annoyance with a small tint of pink running along my face.
"So what you're saying is that if someone pays a meal for you and picks you up when you fall down; they're instantly your friend?" He grabbed his wallet and pulled out his credit card and gently placed it on top of the bill.
"I never said that! Well like, word on word that is. Whatever! Stop making everything so complicated!"
"Are you sure that it's me who is making things complicated or is it you?"
I sat there stunned. My face sadden when I realized it that once again, I was trying to put the blame on someone else besides myself. I guess Shadow noticed I was a bit down from his words, that he plucked a dragon lily from one of the potted plants and twirled it in between his fingers. He then looked up at me for a brief moment before leaning over the table and getting extremely close to my face with his.
"Hey what are you doing!?" I pushed him back into his seat and wrinkled my nose in disgust.
He didn't bother to reply, he simply stood up with the bill in his hand and proceeded to the front counter. "Let's go."
My eyes trailed along his hand, expecting to find the lily he rudely plucked. I cocked an eyebrow when I failed to see any signs of it. About to give up my search for the missing flower, a light breeze blew pass and I felt something in between my ear and my quills. I lifted a hand and felt the unmistakable structure of the dragon lily. I felt the tip of my ears and my cheeks blushing with flattery. Noticing that people were looking at me and my weird expression, I quickly paced to the front door and exited. Already Shadow was on his motorcycle waiting for me. Quick he is.
I climbed on behind him and carefully placed the helmet on my head, afraid of breaking the flower. "What game are you trying to play here Shadow?" I cautiously asked.
"You seemed sad when I spoke the truth. I would feel bad if I drove you all the way home depressed and whiny. Girls get happy when they receive a flower don't they? That's all."
I let that sit in my mind as he pulled out from the parking lot and onto the road. He was driving less dangerous now so I didn't need to wrap my arms around his waist. I stared at the back of his head and admired his black and red quills. He sure had the looks to be a total bad boy, but he's heart wasn't exactly the same. I vigorously shook my head and fixated my gaze on the passing buildings. He's not all that bad I guess... Still a jerk but, less than I expected.
