It was already Saturday and I think I texted about, 10 times to Shadow. I was lying down on my back on the couch with the TV turned on to some reality show while I let in the fresh summer air welcome itself into my living room through my balcony door. I loudly groaned in annoyance with Shadow's lack of attention for me. I placed my phone onto my coffee table and rolled over to my side to watch some TV. Come on Shadow, how hard is it to reply to someone's text? You replied to me yesterday! What's the difference with today? My eyes kept glimmering over to my phone, beckoning me to text Shadow for the 11th time. Eeerrg... I don't wanna seem clingy!! I was growing anxious and pretty impatient. I bit my bottom lip and gazed hard at my phone. What if he's with his real girlfriend? I couldn't take it anymore. I quickly sat up, grabbed ahold of my phone with both my hands and proceeded to write another text message to Shadow.

"Shadow~ where are you (T ^ T)?" I was about to send the text message, when my phone screen turned over to a caller ID and it vibrated inside my hands. I felt my heart skip a beat as I saw the ID was Shadow's name. I instantly pressed on the accept call button and plopped back down onto my couch all excited. "Hey Shadow!" I squealed out.

"You were about to send me another text weren't you?" He said through the receiver. Despite him not being in front of me, I could hear the slight annoyance inside his tone.

"Psh, whhaaa? I wouldn't do that!" I awkwardly laughed and felt myself sweat-drop. "Where are you right now?" I quickly tried to change the topic to pull myself out of the awkward situation.

There was a moment of silence before I heard what sounded like a door squeaking open. "...work..." He said in a somewhat sad tone.

My ears perked up. Oh, so Shadow does work? That's pretty cool. "What do you work as?" I smiled and heard the happy tone in my voice.

"...You...You don't need to know." I then heard a weird click in the background along with something metallic being placed on a aluminium table.

I pouted. "Shadow, what's so bad about your job that you aren't willing to tell me?"

"A lot of things Amy Rose." He quickly shot back.

I pulled the phone away from my face and stared at it in surprise. Shadow has never used my last name in any of his other sentences...What is it about his job that he isn't even willing to tell me? I narrowed my eyebrows and brought back the phone. "Shadow, at least give me a brief description of it or else I'm going to assume you're actually a goon working for a drug dealer." I wrinkled my nose and thought about Shadow doing something illegal like that. I guess that would explain the money he has.

I heard Shadow's amusing chuckle as he spoke with a smile. "You can say it's something like that. But instead of the goon, I'm the boss."

I laughed and moved a loose strand of quill away from my face. "Shadow be serious. I don't wanna be in l-love with some drug dealer here." My heart slightly thumped.

"Fine..." There was a moment of silence before he spoke out again. "This job...it's sort of like working for the police or the government to be exact..."

I widen my eyes and gasped. "Shadow that sounds like a really cool job! You must get paid loads."

"...Yea... The pay is...Generous..." He spoke with hesitant and a low tone. I tilted my head and was about to say something when I heard a gun shot from Shadow's line.

"Shadow!?" I cried out in panic.

"Shit...idiot went in without me checkin--"

I heard a door fling open and hit against the wall hard. Suddenly there was multiple guns shots and a groan of pain.

"Shadow what's happening!?" I cried out. What kind of job does Shadow have? A police officer!? FBI!? I then heard someone cry out in pain, then a body hitting the floor hard.

"Amy I'll have to let you go now, I'm sorry you had to hear--"

"Like hell you're not!" I interrupted. "Shadow whatever your doing, I want you to stop!" I spoke with a hurtful tone in my voice, afraid that I might lose Shadow today.

"I can't just stop you idiot. I need to finish the job first." I heard a loud explosion in the distance and it only made me more worried.

"Shadow..." I pleaded

"Look Amy..." He started but then paused to what sounded like a pistol being shot. "I'll be back by Tuesday. We can discuss about our trivial matters then." I heard another voice calling out at Shadow and why he was talking on the phone.

My instincts were telling me something was definitely wrong about this job. My voice quivered as I spoke out to Shadow in horror. "Shadow no please, you gotta come back tomorrow! I want you to come back tomorrow, you hear me!?"

I heard someone cry out in pain again and flop to the floor. "Amy I can't do that, that's impossible for me-"

"I'm not taking no for an answer, Shadow! I don't know much about you, but I care for you, okay!? I don't care that this is a fake relationship, that doesn't make my feelings for you fake, you got that!?"

There was a pause, only letting the sounds of rapid gun shots fill the tension between us. I then heard Shadow sigh in exasperation. "Fine... I'll be back around 7 pm tomorrow..."

I felt my body relax. "Good. Then I want you to meet me at that first restaurant you took me too." I sniffled.

I heard Shadow wrestle and grunt with another man and then a gun shot. "You're kidding me right? You're asking me to go on a date with you now?" I heard his hover shoes go into action and more explosions.

"Yes, to make sure you're okay." I said in a stern voice, trying to ignore the background noises.

I then heard Shadow sigh. "Fine. Dress nice then. I'll see you soon." Without even waiting for me to say goodbye, Shadow hung up.

I bit my lower lip and contemplated on all the sounds I heard today. I then suddenly got an idea on how I could find out more about Shadow. I quickly pulled up my contacts and dialled her number. After three rings, she picked up.

"Rouge? We need to talk. I want to know everything you know about Shadow."
