Explained Chapter 18

This time, Shadow took me to a cafe that was next to a river. We sat outside while waiting for our drinks and food to come by. I have to admit, I'm pretty happy that Shadow takes me to nice places instead of going to a fast food restaurant. I bet Sonic would do that if I was with him... Though I felt pretty guilty for skipping school just to eat some food and hang out with Shadow. I made a face and shook my head in confusion. Huh? I don't care that it's Shadow that I'm hanging out with, why did I say that?

I earned a look of concern from Shadow, but he didn't ask me what's wrong. We simply sat in silence enjoying the afternoon breeze with our complimentary iced glasses of water.

"Um, you said you were gonna explain everything right? So what's the deal?" Remembering the reason why we even came here to begin with.

Shadow slowly stirred his straw inside his drink and stared at it. He then looked up, and leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest.

"It's nothing important." He finally said.

I leaned out of my seat and brought both my arms on the table. "What!? It sounds pretty important to me! I wanna know why you're smooching me behind the school." I blushed as the kissing scene replayed inside my head.

"What if I told you that I kissed you because I was attracted to you?" He said in a deep smooth luscious voice.

I felt a shiver roam through my whole body as my eyes widen. No...no Shadow doesn't know what love is! The only thing he probably ever like is he's chest fur and making girls cry. "U-umm, well, uhh..."

He smirked. "I'm kidding."

I felt my heart slowly grow smaller and somewhat disappointed. I instantly shook my head and awkwardly laughed. "Ha ha ha, oh snap Shadow, you almost had me there for a second." I turned my face away to hide my expression that was red as a tomato.

"Sonic was talking to me about you." He said a lot quieter, but I was still able to pick up the full sentence. I quickly turned my head back to face Shadow and waited to see if there was more coming out of his mouth. "He told me on Sunday, you went over to his house and found out about his little secret relationship. You threw a tantrum, he comforted you, then you accepted he's apology. Basically the same thing you've told me. Done and done right? I don't think so."

I tilted my head, not sure what Shadow meant.

"I called Sonic an idiot and oblivious. He then called me out saying that I don't have the right to speak because I wasn't friends with you for 10 years. I simply then replied with that if he knew you so well, then does he think you can really move on from him?" He put his elbows on the table and continued. "He stated that it was impossible for you to move on. He also added that you wouldn't even be able to kiss another guy. So, I sought to prove him wrong." Shadow ended off with a sly smirk.

I gasped. "So that's why you kissed me. But Sonic didn't see-"

"He was following us when we left the cafeteria. That's why I said act natural."

"Here's your order." Said our female cat waitress.

She placed the two dishes in front of us. As Shadow was thanking her and having a small chit chat with her, I notice a slip of paper under his plate. When the waitress left while giggling very girly, I pointed at the piece of paper.

"Hey what's that?" I asked

Shadow simply picked up his fork and began to eat his salad. "She gave me her number."

I felt my stomach twist into a knot. I gulped and spoke out: "How you know?"

"This ain't the first time I got a waitress's number by simply sitting here and doing absolutely nothing. Though I'll give her credit for having the audacity to do such a thing while I'm with another girl." Shadow took a bite out of his salad and munched rather slowly.

I felt my heart tighten and scrunched up my nose. Why am I not surprised? Of course Shadow would be getting girl's numbers, he's handsome.

"Wait, did I just say that!?" I verbally spoke out while holding my head with both my hands in surprise.

Shadow arched an eyebrow. "Said what?"

"NOTHING, WOW THIS FOOD LOOKS DELICIOUS!" I began to rapidly stuff my face with the sandwich I ordered without taking breaks in between bites.

Shadow awkwardly stared at me with concern. He looked around to see the other people giving me weird looks as well. He quickly brought his free hand up to his face to shield the amount of unwanted attention he was getting. "Would you stop being a complete embarrassment?" He quietly hissed.

I swallowed and finally felt the embarrassment kick in. I rubbed the back of my head and nodded in agreement. "Sorry, I just suddenly had the urge to eat." I laughed nervously.

He shook his head and took a bite of his salad. I watch him eat and saw a light tint of pink on his cheeks. No way, Shadow the hedgehog is flustered. I smiled and slightly tilted my head downwards. I bit my bottom lip and took a deep breath.

"Hey Shadow?" I firmly asked.

"What is it?" He looked up while lifting a bite of salad to his mouth.

"Do you wanna be my boyfriend?" The wind carried out my words as I closed my eyes and smiled at Shadow.
