Someone Like You: Work From Home

On the ride over to Luke and Michael's house, I learned that Kat was a passionate fan of One Direction, and she was not afraid to ask for the aux cord in an uber. The majority of the drive consisted of Kat and I rocking out to Made In The AM with our driver, who had seen the band in concert three times.

"Hey Elle," Kat looked over at me with an evil grin on her face, and I returned it, knowing something good was about to happen. A second later, a chord on the electric guitar came through the speakers, and Kat started laughing maniacally.

"What song is this?" I asked her, but Kat didn't answer.

"Pretty girl, what's your name?
What's your number?"

Calum's voice, only a little higher than normal, sang the opening lyrics. As soon as I recognized 'I Can't Remember', I just started laughing as I sang along with him.

"There's a party, you can come
If you wanna go tonight
Alright
See you later"

Kat dutifully joined in when Michael did, only she could barely breathe from laughing so hard, so she struggled to get the words out.

"Wrapped up late
Took a minute, but I found my mates
She was there acting cool
So we made her wait
Wasn't long
Couple songs 'til I headed her way
To say
'Damn, you look amazing'"

By the time came we were in full-blown hysterics, at how squeaky the guys' voices were in the recording. We tried our best to continue singing along, but it was useless.

"How did you get this?" I asked her urgently.

"I downloaded it off of YouTube," she answered as she wiped the tears from her eyes.

"That's amazing." I took a minute to catch my breath and looked out the window to find that we were pulling into the driveway of Luke and Michael's house. As soon as we stopped in front of the house, I climbed out of the backseat as fast as I could and headed straight for the front door. However, when I looked behind me, Kat was frozen in the driveway and not making any effort to come closer.

"Are you coming?" I asked her.

"Yep," she replied and walked up to meet me at the door. I wanted to ask her what was on her mind but knowing Kat, she wasn't going to actually talk about what was bothering her, so I decided to just brush it off and head inside with her.

"Guys?" I cracked the door and waited for an answer from one of the boys.

"Lennie?" Luke called from the kitchen. "Come on in, babe!"

"I brought a friend." I grabbed Kat's hand and led her back to the kitchen before she could change her mind.

We found Michael, Luke and Calum playing with jelly beans when we walked inside. I looked between Calum and Luke as I walked over, and I had never felt so torn before. On one side of the kitchen stood the boy who never failed to take my breath away, and on the other was the boy who could always make me feel like everything was right with the world. Did they both have to be so wonderful?

Luke met me in the middle of the kitchen and pulled me into his arms without hesitation. I could feel Calum's eyes on us before our lips even met, which was probably why Luke made a big show of kissing me in front of everyone. I hated how competitive they were acting, and the fact that I was the one causing a rift between them made me feel terrible.
