"Guys, we've got a situation." Luke comes into the living room with his phone in hand, where Jo, Jaclyn, Clarke and I are sitting around the coffee table.
"You're telling me," Jaclyn says in exasperation. "We've been trying to find a way to break Elle's contract for almost two hours, and we've got nothing. Baker has made this thing airtight."
"Well, we've got a new situation." Luke walks over to us and looks... happy? "Michael's back in LA and he needs us to come help him out."
"We have to leave already?" I can't help but feel disappointed. I was looking forward to actually enjoying the time away, but so far, all I've done in Fiji is fight with Luke and Calum.
"I mean, he needs the band because he wants to play her this song he's been writing and all." Luke looks unsure of what to tell me, but I'm not sure what to say either.
"So what I'm hearing is that you lads are leaving, and we're staying." Clarke stands from the table and walks over to Luke. "You go take care of your mate, and I've got your girl."
Luke and I both grimace at Clarke's choice of words, and she quickly realizes her mistake.
"Sorry, wrong choice of words." She clears her throats and looks over her shoulder at me. "Let them head back to the States, but I think you could use a few more days here."
"It would give me more time to come up with a plan on how to break my contract with Modest." I look at Luke hopefully, and he grits his teeth.
"Baker's gonna be pissed if I leave without you," he argues.
"She'll live," Jo assures him, but Luke looks annoyed rather than relieved.
"She's still my girlfriend according to the rest of the world," Luke points out. "If the paps see me leave her here, they'll go nuts and think we broke up, and then Baker is going to come for her."
"He's right," I groan. "Until we find a way to break the contract, I can't do anything that makes it look like Luke and I broke up."
"It's the truth though," Calum pipes in from behind us. Luke rolls his eyes and avoids my gaze, but Calum's comment was just as awkward for me.
"Not right now, Calum," Jo snaps, and he ducks his head down in shame. "So who's staying here and who's leaving?"
"I wouldn't mind hanging around for a little longer," Clarke says. "Stay and hang out with me Jo? We can vent about how evil my mum is for a while."
"Me and Ian will probably stay here too if that's cool," Jaclyn offers.
"I think everyone else is going to come back with us," Calum says quickly.
"Okay well, when are we leaving?" I ask reluctantly.
"We're heading to the airport in an hour," Luke says dismissively before ducking back into our room. "Len, can we talk?"
"Yeah," I nod and follow him into the room, "what's up?"
"I don't expect you to forget all the shit that went down today, but is there anyway we can go back to being friends?" Luke continues to pack his things without making eye contact with me out of fear. "I know you're still stuck in your Modest contract until we can figure out a way to break it, but I don't want to lose you when we figure something out. One thing I was being honest about is that I care about you, Lennie, and I don't want to lose you when this is all over."
"I don't want to lose you either." I want over to him and place a comforting hand on his back. "But are you going to be okay with being friends while I'm dating Calum?"
