Calum's Perspective

"DAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDYYYYYYYYY"

I groan into my pillow, which makes Elle chuckle next to me. The past couple of months, our daughter has been having nightmares and waking up in the middle of the night, which means we've been waking up in the middle of the night with her.

It wouldn't be so bad if Elle and I took turns tending to her, but every time she wakes up, it's me that she's crying for. At first, Elle told me that she would be fine if I just let her fall back to sleep, but as soon as I hear that pitiful little cry, I can't hold myself back from going to check on my little girl.

"Don't you want to go check on her this once?" I whine, but she only giggles more.

"She didn't ask for me," she points out.

I glare at her, but slowly get out of bed nonetheless and pad through the darkness toward our 2 year old's room.

"Kenna?" I ask groggily. Two big golden brown eyes stare up at me filled with tears, and I immediately scoop her into my arms. "What's wrong, Princess?"

"Bad dream," she sniffles, her tiny hands clinging to my tee shirt.

"I'm sorry, Princess," I shush and lightly bounce her in my arms to try and ease her tears. "Daddy's here now."

"Daddy, stay," she pleads into my chest. I stroke her soft brown hair and sigh.

"Daddy won't fit in your bed, love." I tell her and she looks on the verge of tears again. "Do you want to come sleep with Mummy and Daddy?"

Kenna nods and hiccups back her sobs with relief.

"Come on, Princess." I carry her out of her room and down the hall, humming softly to keep her at ease until we get to mine and Elle's room. I push open the door and softly call over to my sleepy girlfriend, "Mummy, we've got a special cuddle buddy tonight."

"Is that Princess Kenna?" She says cutely, and I can feel Kenna smile against my tee shirt at her mother's voice. "Oh good, I was needing some Kenna cuddles."

"Hi Mummy," Kenna croaks, her voice still a little raspy from crying.

"Hi baby." Elle pulls back the covers to make a space for her, and Kenna urgently crawls in her arms.

"Daddy," Kenna holds her arm out behind her with her face buried in Elle's neck, "hand."

I chuckle as I climb into bed beside Elle. My arms wrap around her to hold her close, and Kenna clutches onto my hand and pulls it close like a security blanket.

"G'night, Princess," I say once Kenna is satisfied with her grip on my hand.

"Night night, Daddy," Kenna squeaks in her adorable voice.

"Goodnight, Daddy," Elle whispers, and I smirk to myself.

"G'night, gorgeous," I whisper back.
