She's Not Afraid: t h r e e
Someone Like You: Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous

The dress Jaclyn had helped me pick out could not have been more perfect for tonight. Between the lilac color, the sweetheart neckline, and the way it made my waist look microscopic, I was on cloud nine when Luke came to pick me up for the VMAs. I had curled my hair into loose waves that fell almost to my butt and pinned the side of my hair back so that it all fell over my left shoulder. I went for a brown smokey eye and somehow managed to successfully apply to pair of natural false eyelashes to give myself extra volume in my lashes. With a nude lip to complete the look, I was ready in under an hour.

When I opened the door, I was not expecting Luke to look so... well... sexy. His hair was pushed to the side in an extra messy way that made him look like he'd just woken up, and his beard had grown out just enough that he looked 25 rather than 20. He'd paired a black suit jacket with a pair of hole-free black skinny jeans and a white button down shirt. Only the bottom half of the buttons on the shirt were fastened, leaving his toned chest exposed for me to try and not gawk over him.

"You look pretty," he said sweetly. He shoved his hands in his pockets and looked me up and down while he bit his lip. I wasn't sure how to read his body language. He seemed tense, and I wasn't sure what was bothering him.

"Thank you," I said quietly. "You look great."

"Thanks," Luke cracked a smile and held out his hand for me to take. "We should probably get going."

"Okay," I turned to give Jo and Jaclyn hugs before I left for the night.

"We'll be watching you work it on the carpet," Jaclyn giggled as we left. Jo told me to have a great night and quickly sent me and Luke on our way.

"Are you okay?" I asked Luke once we were alone in his car. We were all supposed to show up at his and Michael's house before the the limousine was supposed to pick us up and take us to the award show.

"I'm just kind of confused," Luke confessed. He looked sad, and I wanted to try and make him feel better. I just had no idea how.

"About what?" I asked when he didn't explain further.

"Everything," he sighed and glanced over at me in his passenger seat. "It feels like everything has shifted since you came on the tour with us."

"A lot has happened since we got on the road." I looked out the window and thought of something better to say. "Is everything okay between us?"

"Yeah," he said unconvincingly. "I don't know... It's not like we can just pretend that we didn't sleep together."

"Yeah," was all I could think to say. Since that night, all of our interactions were laced with sexual tension. As hard as we both tried, we couldn't just ignore whatever was going on between us. Not that either of us knew what that really was.

"Are you still seeing Calum?" He asked hesitantly. We both knew the answer, and neither of us wanted to be the one to say it.

"It's complicated," I admitted. Even though Calum and I had made up, I was hitting a mental block with him. Every time we were alone together, I remembered that I was lying to him by withholding the truth about me and Luke. The guilt was eating me alive, but I couldn't bring myself to confess after we'd already moved on from the topic of cheating. But was it even cheating if I'm technically dating Luke? This was all way too confusing. "Are you still seeing your mystery girl?"

"We've been fighting a lot," he confessed, and I cocked an eyebrow at him. "She knows that we had sex."

"So basically, she hates me." I forced a laugh, but Luke looked really concerned all of a sudden.
