Was this coincidence or was this fate?

The man that Parvati knew better than to love, yet still loved anyways, was in the same college as her. He was in the same program as her. He was in all of her classes... again. And, she was not saying a word to him... again.

They were living in a dorm at a college in Pune and were studying computer science.

In the last many years, Anshuman never looked her way. Except, that one time where he took her size for the ring he was going to give to someone else.

Perhaps that was the day she fell for him. Or was it earlier? She didn't know.

It wasn't easy to pinpoint the exact time Parvati fell for Anshuman, but it was easy for her to know that what she felt for him couldn't be anything but love.

How could someone be stuck on someone else for so long, yet not love them?

She had created many scenarios in her mind - all of which ended up with her hugging Anshuman, or her kissing him, or her even talking to him. She just wanted to talk to him... but she was scared.

When college started, she thought to make a fresh start for herself. Back in their school days, she had one friend, and she hadn't accompanied Parvati to this college. The only ones from their school that Parvati knew attended this college were her, Anshuman, and Sandhya.

Sandhya had been the most popular girl in high school, and Parvati was certain that she would be here too. She had never spoken to Sandhya either, but Parvati knew that Anshuman and her were good friends.

Often, it would hurt her to see them so close, but she consoled herself by saying they were only friends. It was true... right?

Parvati didn't want the same reputation that she had in school. She didn't want to be known as the girl with the oily braids and the glasses. She wanted to be known as the girl who knew how to dress up, who looked nice, who had friends.

So Parvati removed her glasses and started to wear contact lenses. She bought a new wardrobe for herself with money she had saved up from her birthdays. Every year, on her birthday, an envelope would come for her, with a hefty amount of money, signed in her father's name.

He hadn't come to meet her, but he had sent her money.

Parvati made a few friends the first few days of college, but it was nowhere near the social group that Sandhya had made for herself. She noticed Anshuman too... but he never noticed her, as usual.

Perhaps he didn't even know her name anymore.

Parvati shook her head, ignoring that he was the same kid who offered her crayons when nobody else stepped up.

Then she went her way.

Many months later, there would be certain situations that would throw them together in the most unexpected way.

Were those situations a byproduct of coincidence, or a byproduct of fate?
