One month into the vacations, Anshuman was taking a walk alone, with his hands shoved in his pockets. He had just come back from Sandhya's house, trying to speak to her again, but her mom opened the door and asked him to stop visiting her. Sandhya didn't want to see him.
He didn't know what the problem was. He didn't know why she was avoiding him. Anshuman had no idea what was going on. All he knew was that he loved her and he was absolutely certain that she loved him as well.
There was something she was hiding, and he was getting frustrated that she wasn't sharing herself with him.
It was the evening, around eight at night, and he was walking out of Sandhya's street, towards the marketplace, when Sandhya came running out after him.
"Anshuman," she said, sounding out of breath.
Anshuman stopped in his tracks and turned to face her, shocked but happy that she had come to him.
"Sandhya," Anshuman said, and wrapped his arms around her, engulfing her in a tight hug. "I knew you would come."
He felt her hands rest on his back for a few moments, before she broke the hug and looked into his eyes.
"Actually... there is something you need to know," Sandhya told him.
Anshuman held her face gently in his hands, like she was something to be treasured. He looked into her eyes. Oh, he loved her so much.
"Anshuman... the r - reason... the reason is that I... I... slept with someone," she confessed, tears filling her eyes.
"What?" Anshuman gasped.
Sandhya nodded.
"I... I know we weren't in a relationship and I - I gave you hope, b - but I didn't think twice. That's why I - I can't be with you," she told him breathlessly, tears falling from her eyes.
Anshuman let go of her, pain and shock in his eyes.
"I thought you were only mine," he told her, sounding lost.
"I thought you would wait for me... I thought I could mess around, and you would always be there for me. But I... I didn't want to be with you anymore. I fell for him. It wasn't only once," she confessed tearfully.
Anshuman's heart shattered into a million tiny pieces.
"Can you forgive me?" Sandhya asked him softly.
Anshuman turned around, not sparing her another glance, and he stumbled forward, shocked out of his mind that Sandhya had done that.
How could she betray him?
She lead him on, she gave him hopes, and she went to someone else at the end of it all.
Anshuman stopped in his tracks, and turned to look at her, his eyes now dark.
"I will never forgive you," he spat.
Then he walked away from her, his heart aching with pain. Tears were in his eyes, but he angrily brushed them away.
As he walked, he saw Parvati with her college friend at a pani puri stall. It was like she always came to him when he needed her. He stormed up to her while she was chatting with her friend. Without saying a word, he grabbed her arm and pulled her away, shocking her out of her mind.
Once again, was this coincidence or was this fate?
Her friend watched with shock as well as Anshuman pulled Parvati away. He took her to an alleyway and pushed her against the wall, holding her arms with great force.
He looked into her eyes and leaned towards her, to kiss her, to get the satisfaction of hurting Sandhya the same way that she hurt him.
What he didn't know was that after he left, Sandhya fell to the ground, clutching her chest, crying her eyes out, because of a lie she told him for his own sake.
