Anshuman stared at Parvati, gobsmacked, when she asked him if moving on was an option. He had never thought to move on. The idea hadn't even entered his mind, nevermind his heart.
How could he move on from someone he had devoted all his years to? How could he move on from someone who he loved? How could he move on from the girl who was closest to him?
He couldn't move on.
"No," Anshuman answered her sincerely.
Then he lifted himself off the desk and stood up, ready to leave the room. Parvati stood up too, a strange pain in her eyes, which she concealed with a smile.
"I understand. I can't move on either," she told him honestly.
"It's getting late. I'm going to head back to the dorm. We have our first exam tomorrow," he informed.
Parvati nodded in agreement.
"Yes, we do," she said softly.
Anshuman then walked away from her, although a large part of him wanted to stop what he was doing and turn around. He wanted to walk back up to her and share his entire life with her.
He felt connected to her, just through this one conversation. It was like she was the friend who he always craved for. She, a stranger, listened to him and his sorrows, when none of his current friends could.
Sandhya was different. She was always there for him... but now she was running away.
Anshuman had been feeling alone and lost. He missed Sandhya. He wanted to share every moment of his life with her. That was why he found himself in tears here earlier. He just wanted her to share herself with him too.
"Bye," he heard Parvati's voice call out as he left the room.
He had already left though, and he didn't think he had the energy to say anymore words to her. Right now, he truly needed to get some rest for tomorrow's exam.
As soon as he made it to his dorm, he took out his phone and looked at his wallpaper. It was a picture of him and Sandhya.
He touched the screen lovingly.
"I miss you. When will you return to me?" he asked it softly, his eyes filling with tears again.
Then he kissed her forehead in the picture, his tears falling onto the screen.
He loved her a lot. He really did. No matter how far away she ran from him, he would always be there waiting for her. That was his promise to her which he vowed to abide by, no matter what came his way.
