They finished giving their presentation to the two developers, but the boss still hadn't arrived. Aahana tried to call the boss, but he wasn't answering her calls. With a sigh, Aahana apologized to Parvati and her colleagues.
"He's not like this. He's always very punctual... it's just that I guess something is going on in his family," Aahana explained.
"It's okay," Parvati said. "Shall we leave and come back tomorrow then?"
"Yes, that's a good idea," Aahana said. "I apologize again on his behalf. We'll give you a call for when to come in."
Parvati nodded and she left the meeting room with Ashutosh and Rishabh.
"That's very unprofessional," Ashutosh pointed out.
"Maybe something important really did come up... we can't blame him without knowing the situation," Parvati explained.
"I guess so," Ashutosh agreed. "But the developers liked our presentation, so it will probably work in our favour."
"Hey, do you guys want to explore Singapore?" Rishabh intervened.
"You two go. I'm not feeling too well," Parvati said.
She was feeling very sick and jittery for some reason. She had been feeling it all day, but managed to ignore it.
"Do you want one of us to drop you back to the hotel?" Rishabh asked.
"No. I can get back on my own," Parvati denied.
She followed Rishabh and Ashutosh to the main entrance of the office. The two men crossed the street to explore the area, and Parvati walked to the parking lot, in order to find the company car to take her back to the hotel.
In the parking lot though, she didn't recognize a man step out of his car and rush inside the building, as if he had some urgent work. What she did notice, was that once this man disappeared, there was something shifting in the backseat of his car.
Parvati instinctively walked towards the car and upon looking in, she saw a small girl who was shivering in the backseat of the car, lying down. It was blazing hot out here, and in the car it must be more humid.
Unable to stop herself, she reached inside the window with her skinny arms and unlocked the car, before sitting inside and bringing the small girl's head to her lap. She caressed her sweaty hair.
"Are you okay?" Parvati asked.
"P - papa," the young girl said with her trembling lips, "I w - want my p - papa."
"Where is your papa?" Parvati asked her.
What kind of father would leave his daughter in the backseat of his car, where it was burning hot?
"H - he went to g - get s - something. H - he said h - he will be back in one m - minute," the girl said, her teeth chattering.
Was getting something more important than his daughter's health? Seriously?
Parvati picked up the small girl in her arms, without a second thought, and took her out of the car. The girl's head rested on Parvati's shoulder, as she took the girl to the company car.
"If he can't take care of his daughter, then someone else has to. He doesn't even deserve to have a kid," Parvati muttered to herself under her breath, and then told the driver of the car, "Please take us to the hospital."
As soon as the driver drove off with Parvati and the little girl, the man from earlier stepped out of the office with a bottle of cold water in his hands.
He had been on his way to the hospital because his daughter had a very high fever, when she started crying for water... since he didn't have any in the car, and the office was on the way, he stopped here and rushed inside to get her a bottle of water.
It was strange how his daughter had come to him, almost like a twist in fate. For him, she wasn't his daughter by blood, but from the moment she was a baby, he was the one who raised her, so he had always considered her his own.
Once this man got to his car, he saw that the back door was unlocked and his daughter was gone.
Fear took over Anshuman Shenoy's body at the prospect of losing his daughter just like he had lost everyone else in his life.
