"No she shouldn't go out with you," Sandhya's mom told him sternly, when Anshuman was trying to get permission to take her out. "Her wedding is in one week. There's so much to do at home."
Anshuman unhappily nodded and looked at Sandhya, who was pouting because she didn't want to stay back.
"Ma just for a little while," Sandhya begged.
"It's not good for a boy and girl to roam around just before their marriage. You know it can be a bad omen," her mom warned.
"Please, we just want to go to the mall," Sandhya replied, rolling her eyes. "Ma!"
"You'll do what you want anyways," her mom replied. "Do whatever you want... I have no say in your life after all!"
Sandhya grinned.
"I love you Ma," Sandhya squealed and hugged her mom. "I'll be back soon. Let's go Anshuman!"
She held his hand and dragged him outside,
"You are making me look like a bad son-in-law," Anshuman told her, frowning, as they got into his car.
In the last three years, he joined a well known technology firm and secured a good position in the company. Now he was well off and ready to marry Sandhya. Sandhya on the other hand was staying at home because although her health picked up since the bone marrow transplant, she was still weak. She would often feel dizzy.
"It feels like I don't belong in this world... that I'm not meant to be here, but because of some luck, I get to stay," Sandhya would joke.
Anshuman hated when she joked like that, because he had already feared losing her once. He didn't want to go through the same thing again.
They pulled into the mall and went to a female clothing store, where Sandhya was looking at sarees.
"After marriage, I want to dress like a typical daughter-in-law!" Sandhya said, sounding serious. "I want to please my mother-in-law and my dear husband and -"
"You want to be too typical don't you?" Anshuman asked, rolling his eyes. "Get normal clothes."
"These are normal clothes," Sandhya replied, frowning. "Why don't you like sarees?"
"They're so complicated! You'll take forever getting ready every morning," he pointed out.
"You want me to get ready quickly huh? Mr. Shenoy seems to have some special plans for Mrs. Shenoy," Sandhya told him, wrapping her arms around his neck in the saree shop and leaning close to him.
"You know there are some old aunties and uncles in here right?" Anshuman asked her, raising his eyebrow, as he held her waist gently.
"You told me not to be typical... so I'm not," she whispered, and she leaned even closer to him.
She was about to close her eyes, when she noticed a familiar face behind him. Sandhya let go of him right away.
The girl was checking out sarees with a man next to her.
"Parvati?" Sandhya gasped, and leaving Anshuman behind, she ran up to her old classmate and sister.
