What did Sandhya say? Did she say she had chronic leukemia? She only had a year or two more to live, optimistically? Was there something in his ears, or had he really heard all that?

It wasn't true right? No. It couldn't be true. His Sandhya couldn't be dying. Parvati told him she would be okay. How could Parvati's words be a lie?

"You're... you're joking right?" Anshuman told Sandhya. "You're trying to get back at me after I said those mean words to you... right?"

Parvati watched Anshuman's disbelief tearfully.

"I wish I was joking Anshuman," Sandhya whispered. "I really wish I was joking."

Sandhya managed to sit up and she wrapped her arms around a shocked Anshuman. Parvati looked down, feeling like she was invading on their privacy.

"You're... you're lying to me," Anshuman said, bringing his hands up to hold Sandhya to him tightly. "Don't lie to me. I won't be mean anymore. I won't... but please I can't take this."

He felt her tears on his skin and he just held her more tightly, his own eyes brimming with tears.

"Sandhya... no..." he said, as it finally sunk in. "No... please... no."

He felt like dying. He really wished he could be in her place. He didn't have the strength to watch her die.

Parvati held on to the edge of her chair tightly, but she hadn't noticed that there was a wire hanging out, poking through her skin and making it bleed profusely.

She winced in pain, but she stood up, and walked away from the two of them, not disturbing them.

They needed each other now. They didn't need her.

"I am not strong enough to be away from you Anshuman. Just seeing you is enough in college... I don't need you... I just need to look at you... I... I can't be away Anshuman," Sandhya cried. "I can't."

"I love you so much," Anshuman told her, tears falling onto her neck. "I can't live without you."

"You have to," she told him. "You have to live Anshuman. We will make the most out of whatever time I have left. I'll leave you with lots of memories... and when it's time for me to go, you will live with me in your thoughts."

"I need you, not your thoughts," he told her hoarsely.

"You will always have me," she whispered, closing her eyes and feeling safe in his embrace. "I'm only yours Anshuman. I always will be."

Anshuman just held her to him, unable to face the truth that he would lose her, but also not able to let go of her.

"I'm never letting go of you. I'm going to hug you tightly forever... nobody will take you from me. Not even death," Anshuman told her painfully, his body shaking. "You're mine. You're only mine. I won't lose you. I can't... I just can't."
